GESO: Sable Dam Drive

2020-07-17 Thread Alan C
It was warm & sunny yesterday so we took a late pm lockdown drive to
Sable Dam in the Kruger Park. Took only the K5 & HD 55-300. Here are a
few images:
A Three Banded Plover. A large Terrapin enjoying the sunshine. A young
Ellie bull at the far end of the dam. Narcissus, a Yellow Billed
Hornbill, admiring himself in the windscreen & a huge Ellie bull,
fortunately not in musth, emerging from the bush. Scroll L.

Thanks. I pretty much figure that when it comes to photos of celestial objects
in isolation there’s no way I can compete with the hubble, or anybody with a
real telescope and equatorial mount.

Even so, it can be a fun challenge to see what I can accomplish.

Re: How to find Comet Neowise

2020-07-17 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Larry, you are getting some very nice looking results!

We are unlucky to have cloudy skies, so we haven't seen it.

Just in case: there are a few phone apps that help finding the comet (and
other celestial objects) on the sky, and many of them are free.

I was using Sky Safari (on Android).
It allows to see the height of the comet at different times of the day,
etc.

Cheers,
Igor

FS: Learning from Ann...

2020-07-17 Thread Jeffery Johnson | Photo Captures by Jeffery
First and foremost I am not wanting to usurp Ann and her posting from
Monday. I am however learning from Ann and I have been attempting to not
have all my eggs in one basket and diversifying what products I can
offer to everyone. About a month ago, give or take, I began adding some
of my artistic creative captures on Redbubble so I can offer them on
additional diverse products.?? I will still offer some of the similar
products on my main site along with print mounting options ie., framed,
metal, canvas, acrylic, fotoflots, standouts.

If you are interested you are welcome to visit both sites any time you wish.

Weather permitting, as it has become hot and muggy here in Middle TN,
hoping to do some back road roaming later today or this weekend.

How to find Comet Neowise

2020-07-17 Thread Larry Colen
I did some test shots of Neowise tonight, I tried to get some really wide angle
one to show where it was in relation to the Big Dipper, but unfortunately
constellations don’t really show up well in photos, so I sort of cheated with
Lightroom to draw in the Big Dipper:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/50122251052/in/album-72157715131030577/

It’s a bit of a hack, but I don’t have things dialed in well on my new laptop.

Here is a fun shot, that I couldn’t have done this well if I had tried.
crossing the tail:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/50122248862/in/album-72157715131030577/

The comet was down in the fog, I definitely need to find someplace higher up to
photograph it from.
Full set here, nothing spectacular, but it is definitely getting a lot more
visible than it was last week.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/albums/72157715131030577

At the moment, it seems that my best results are with astrotracer at 10
seconds. I really wish astrotracer worked at shorter times than 10 seconds.
