PESO: Maribou Stork

Maribou Storks are scavengers, well known for cleaning up at kills & in 
rubbish tips. Generally they appear very dirty. This is one of a group, 
soaked & washed by overnight rain, busy drying out before attempting to 
ride the thermals to find another meal. Disgusting on the ground, yet 
graceful in the air!

I have no pangs of guilt. Traffic was light, our Prius V  probably used under 2 
gallons of petrol, and there are few places for a good walk without crowds that 
are closer.

We took Interstate 95 most of the way, and the river is mostly out of sight. 
Wilmington, Chester, a bunch of suburbs, and the Philly airport are in the way.

Ann, the gnarly tree is likely common hawtorn (Crataegus monogyna) which 
is commonly present in our dune areas, dead or alive.

In the past peasants used these for hedges.
But I'll check with others here to confirm.

That’s true. Over here there’s has been much philosophical discussion about the 
meaning of ‘local’, and the answer seems to differ according to whether you are 
in the country or a city, and whether you are an ordinary person or a Prime 
Minister.
