GESO: Roadside Jersey

2021-04-07 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
The recent discussions about unique roadside structures brought to mind
some highway features near me.My favorite is a classic Jersey diner that
closed decades ago and is slowly falling apart. I decided to run out and
take an image of it, and discovered that it was in the process of
demolition.

I found one of my older images of that diner, and decided to drive the
highway between it and my home to record what else is out there, before
everything unique disappears.

The highway in question is US 22. It replaced an older route called the
Easton Turnpike, and in turn has been superseded by I-78, which parallels
it to the North. It connects the Newark/New York City area with Easton,
PA, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. US 22 passes about 2 miles north of our
home, and is completely suburban and developed to the East of here, but
still a bit rural and partly undeveloped to the West. The western stretch
still contains several unusual older structures, and I have tried to
document some of those that line the Eastbound lanes between here and the
Whitehouse area, a few miles to the West.

The K24 f3.5 would be my choice as well. I have one and use it for

trial on the K1, I've never used it as intended.

I have another short video about the FA35 queued to be posted next week.
I'm also open to suggestions, I have tons of lenses and it's hard to choose
which one to do next. What do you people think?

Some candidates:

K24/3.5
M24-35/3.5
Super Takumar 35/3.5
Super Takumar 28/3.5
Cheap/off brand 24/2.8 K mount (Marexar I think?)
Kiron 28/2 (I think this one has haze though!)

or even

Minolta 50mm macro
50mm Summilux with old dead fungus (this will actually be super interesting
I think!)
Industar 26 (50mm 2.8)
Jupiter 8 (50mm 2)
MIR-1B (37mm 2.8)

Yes I guess I do have a problem...

Re: gfm npw alternate

2021-04-07 Thread Stanley Halpin
Scott, thanks for looking into this. I am interested in joining the party but
unsure whether we’ll be able to make a commitment. Our major
flood-damaged-kitchen restoration project is now finally under contract with
the guy saying “maybe May or June we’ll get to it…”

I was a member of PATC many decades ago, Meg and I met through PATC, I was
Chair of the Mountaineering Section, then also VP of PATC for a year and then
Treasurer, Meg and I maintained a 3 mile stretch of the AT, etc. So staying in
one of these cabins would be like coming home! Most of the cabins are open to
Members Only and when we were actively involved Members had a head start on
getting reservations even for the Public cabins.

An alternative I had thought of is the Watkins Glen State Park in New York. I
know camping is available, maybe cabins? And for sure many motels in the area.
But what made me think of the Glen, apart from the obvious photo opportunities,
is that I attended my 50 Year High School reunion there a few years ago. The
main event was a catered dinner held in a large building with plenty of space.
If that is of interest I could see if any surviving classmates know what the
arrangements were…

I have been considering the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2000. It may not have
a extremely long reach (24-480 mm), but it has a 1 inch sensor that is
much improvement compared to those of standard compact camera's.
On the other hand, it means I would no longer take along my Pentax
DSLR's which, though heavier to carry,  will surely give better results
for landscapes.
