Despite your distance from them I like the first coot shot.. they need
other stuff going around and for them to be inaction mode to be

Don't know much about turtles - Except I'm old enough to have had more

after that mock turtle tasted ok .  I guess it was the sherry.

Most of the turtles are red-ear turtles, which are an invasive species. Are

The coots were barely within range of my FA 80-320 lens.

The woods were pleasant, though, and the walk was good.

Re: OT: Interesting sunrise shot -- followed by a bizare debate.

2021-04-11 Thread Stanley Halpin
The app Bob mentions is one I first heard of in the context of where/when one
needed to be in order to capture the full moon framed by one of the arches in
Arches National Park.

I use The Photographer’s Ephemeris when travel planning. If I plan to be on a
ship off the coast of Norway in early 2022 or, more likely, in 2023, which day
of which month do I target to have the best chance of a dark (moon free) night
for views of the Northern Lights? Which day of which month do I target if I
want to catch a moonrise over a fjord?

The app works great, both desktop and phone versions. Unfortunately it cannot
forecast likely weather conditions nor can it help me choose whether to put my
planning effort toward the Northern Lights or toward less exotic but possibly
more interesting scenics. That is the decision I need to make in the next day
or two…

PESO Wren

2021-04-11 Thread Toine
The Eurasian version:
https://www.repiuk.nl/albums/new/#&gid=1&pid=006-108-dscn0196

The sensor of the P950 is noisy and a joke compared to the sensor of
the KP. Shooting this at 1/125 @2000mm handheld is simply amazing, and
very addictive. This totally compensates for the cheap and flimsy
plastic feeling. Even the tripod mount looks like it could snap off
any moment.
Did I mention this cam comes without a manual and external charger
(usb2 only). They included a hood which is totally useless.
Cropping a 150-450 with 1.4TC on a KP or K3iii and tripod probably
outperforms this on IQ and weight.

Re: PESO - Red Maple

That's gotta be one of your best ever flower photos.. wild applause.
just the right amount of sharp feature flowers and bokeh in beautiful light.

But you know me and my preference for proportions that lean away from
square.. I think it would be even more super if you trimmed the bottom
just a bit to make the geometry even better.. so that the long soft
focus branch touches the lower right corner.

Re: FA35mm video review

2021-04-11 Thread Henk Terhell

Juan, a nice video review!
The FA 35/2 has always been one of my most favoured lenses. I bought it
based on Yoshihiko's lens resolution tests:

http://www.takinami.com/yoshihiko/photo/index.html
I do like the hood which is very convenient.
The only cosmetic weakness is the door on the hood for pola filter turning.
This is always falling off. I put some black tape on it.

I just published my under 4 minute review of the FA35.

This was my main prime lens for years, and when shooting video of it I
realized how bad it looks. That's plastic from the 90s for you! One reason
to love the new metal AF Fuji lenses for example, I imagine they will look
a lot better than this in twenty years.

Anyway it's a great lens even if its skin hasn't aged well.
