I like that photo: very geometric, and the “Closed” sign in the background is
poignant.

IMNSHO: Religion can be a good thing. I have been a member off and on of an
organized religion for much of my life. Which is not to say that I accept all
aspects of the doctrinal theology, but rather I appreciate the community of
shared values and the commitment to doing good in the world.

No, Religion capital R is not all that big a problem. Zealotry capital Z on the
other hand is a poison whether it is manifested among evangelicals or
conservative Sunnis or Buddhists or Catholics or whatever. You are welcome to
your ideas as long as they don’t hurt me, you are welcome to try to “educate”
me as long as I will be heard when I say no, you are welcome to let your
behavior be guided by your principles as long as you don’t cause me harm or try
to force me to be bound by those same principles. E.g., someone may believe in
the Canon, that’s ok, but don’t make me sell my Pentax!

Thanks, Dan.

The lake is Winnisquam, whose northernmost 2 miles or so are a 10mph/no wake
zone with a wildlife/recreation preserve.

Thank you, but Alan just forwarded the link I included in my reply, perhaps it

PESO - Loon Family (re-sending)

2021-08-18 Thread Rick Womer
Sent this yesterday, but it doesn’t seem to have shown up on the PDML.

These loons were frequent visitors to the cove our cottage was on. I took this
on the fifth day of our two-week stay; by the end the chick was much larger,
and was sporting a white breast, and speckled white-and-black head and body
feathers. By late September it will probably follow its parents to a wintering
ground off the East coast.

THe way this thread has developed it looked like the link to the red
planes was from Alan.. I've only skimmed it but I finally realised that
Larry was sending examples of his work to Alan with the setting details..

then I saw "ellarsee' In the link.. before I said to Alan that it look
liked he nailed several of them in terms of sharpness and geometry..

hehe..

Interesting Eagles. There are a couple of Pitts here. Some other very

what they all are.

I'll get it right over the next couple of days. Probably the last
chance I'll get of seeing something like this.   Ellies are much easier!

The planes are just too distant - too small - out of range. A bit
like trying to photograph an eagle in flight at 300m!

There’s a really good chance that they are eagles:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviat_Eagle

I used TAV 1000sec,  f8 exclusively. Tried single, 5 point & 11
point focusing. I started by focusing on the moon. In all auto focus
modes the camera just couldn't lock on to the planes. There was no
lens creep. Didn't try panning.

Yeah, sounds like you need to go full manual to get a chance at focus.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.
