IMNSHO: Religion can be a good thing. I have been a member off and on of an organized religion for much of my life. Which is not to say that I accept all aspects of the doctrinal theology, but rather I appreciate the community of shared values and the commitment to doing good in the world.
No, Religion capital R is not all that big a problem. Zealotry capital Z on the other hand is a poison whether it is manifested among evangelicals or conservative Sunnis or Buddhists or Catholics or whatever. You are welcome to your ideas as long as they don’t hurt me, you are welcome to try to “educate” me as long as I will be heard when I say no, you are welcome to let your behavior be guided by your principles as long as you don’t cause me harm or try to force me to be bound by those same principles.
