Ann, It was at Crystal Springs which is a mountain resort (2000m) about
200Km S of Phalaborwa in Mpumalanga (which means "Where the sun comes
up"). A green canyon cuts through the area & the escarpment to the
Lowveld & the Kruger Park which is about 50Km to the E. We go there for
a week each year in Summertime.

and Alan, I see you do have good light somewhere near you :-) I guess
you were not in Kruger when you took that one.

Thanks Ann. (It was a grab shot.)

Yeah - very nice gallery and the 15 shots in the index make for a good
look too.

Rick - I cracked up with your very appropriate title...

I thought Ralf's title should have been "ART?"  Marco 's shot was
particularly powerful (whether grab shot

 or posed) it was chilling.

.. Henk's photo is one I've especially liked for a while and

Dave's fun with the crystal ball I thought was the very best of all he
has done playing around with it.

But I think a theme does draw more  submissions because it gives us a
starting point and if it is an uncommon subject
for each of us then it becomes a challenge to strtetch interpretation..
I'm scared of planes and 'looking down" so

July will be challenging for me -

This is a really interesting gallery!

Henk, that dragonfly shot is great. The body and right wing are sharp, but the
left wing is not, and shades nicely into the beautifully soft greenery in the
background. I would have expected more DOF at f/7.1, unless you were very
close. How did you do this?

Filip, the lighting and composition are very relaxing. I was hoping that there
was a link to the sound of the bowls, but alas I could only find one leading to
narration in Dutch.

Ralf, yours is enjoyably whimsical.

Bruce, iI’m not sure what to think about yours. Was this vandalism or the scene
of a fire? (could be both, actually…)

Eric, how did you light this? The ighting and DOF are perfect. I hope you have
this hanging on a wall!

Great action shot, Dan. The cyclists’ banking gives a great impression of
speed, and the scene is very colorful.

Beautiful sunset, Alan. I’m impressed by how well you held the colors in the
sky, and even a bit in the sun.

Cheers,

Rick

Well, thanks Rick. You clearly see it in a much more analytical way than
I do. I simply thought it was a pretty sunset!

Re: June PUG is up

2022-06-09 Thread Henk Terhell
Thanks Rick. It looks as both front wings are unsharp due to rapid
movement. Both hind wings have about the same sharpness so there is less
movement at that moment.
DOF is not that great at 300 (450) mm and much cropping is still needed for
such in-flight pics.
