RE: OT: Why It's Illegal to Take Photos of the Eiffel Tower at Night

2022-06-30 Thread jcoyle
While in Paris on several occasions during the 1970's, I took a number of
photos of the Eiffel Tower at night: since these predated any grant of
copyright, I think I would contest any claim upon the copyright by a third
party, and also amongst others on the grounds I am not a EU citizen and
therefore not subject to their laws while outside the territory.
On a more general note, I agree that the world has gone crazy, with corporates
trying to control images beyond any reasonable extent, and suing, in the USA,
companies outside the USA for trade mark infringement where the defendant has
used the brand long before the existence of the appellant's brand.

I refer to the response of the commander of US forces at Bastogne - "Nuts".

The company running the Eiffel Tower (SETE) have the rights not to the tower
itself but the nightly illumination.

fotocommunity.de have a special agreement with them to the effect that you may
publish those photos via your account on their website if you add a mention
transferring the SETE the rights to the image.

And it's not only the Eiffel Tower. There's a rule in Belgium saying that you
aren't allowed to publish photos of the Atomium in Brussels regardless if
they've been taken by day or night.

As of January 28, 2022, it is no longer allowed to take and publish photos of
the two Belgian nuclear power stations near Liège and Antwerp.

The whole world is goin crazier by the day.

Agree. Ridiculous. I took a shot of the Atomium years ago when
travelling past on a bus. Also  a night shot of the Eiffel tower from a
hotel window on the same trip. Would it be legal to publish them here?

Thanks Alan. I only cropped to a more square format leaving out some

I am using the 55-300 PLM on the K70 that is so fast focusing for such
