hello, after a long time
hope everyone is safe and things are going on as usual in pdml central after some fundamental life changes due to which i had to change towns and i was not even able to lurk for the last six months or so, i am settled in my 'native' place in kerala and 'back' so to speak. i have been active photographically speaking, but mostly with the nikon birding set-up and i've a few treks and motorcycle rides in the himalayas coming up in the months ahead on which i will hopefully be taking the k5iis. glad to be back and though it's no use trying to catch up on the mail, i'll give it a try... regards, subash -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: PESO 2023 - 026-044 - GDG
Thank you, Ann! The video compilations I do are an easy way for me to look through a set quickly and see that it meets my notions. It's not the best way to appreciate the individual photographs, for sure, so I put the stills gallery up as well. Thank you for the comments and the interest! :) G — No matter where you go, there you are. > On Feb 12, 2023, at 3:27 PM, ann sanfedele wrote: > > I'm much happier looking at your flicker presentation of these and I left you > some loving comments there :-) > > ann > > > On 2/12/2023 10:04 AM, Godfrey DiGiorgi wrote: >> If you just want to see the stills without the video encapsulation, I've >> posted them to Flickr.com now and put them in a small dedicated album: >> https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjArPNp -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: An orgy of HDR and computer-enhanced kitsch
Most of them were hideous to my eye, but I did like the orchid blossoms that took 1st in one of the categories... subtle and painterly and a couple of others that were less hypersaturated and better than most of the prize winners. But it is what the audiences seem to go for these days. sigh. ann On 2/9/2023 5:11 PM, Ralf R Radermacher wrote: Am 09.02.23 um 22:12 schrieb John Sessoms: HDR has its place. Re: PESO x2 (insects)
I've seen cicadas and stick insects up close and personal .. cicadas more often.. when they emerge in desert climes, as they did in the early nine ties when Richard and I were in Las Vegas at our /pied a terre, /they were certainly not hard to spot.. not enough places to hide. I like your two captures though too bad the skeeters where getting to you.. which clearly prevented you getting the entire stick in your photo, yes? ann // On 2/11/2023 4:15 PM, David Mann wrote: Thanks, Henk. Cicadas are usually quite hard to spot but that one started chirping at about my head height while I was taking photos of the stick insect (which are also quite adept at hiding). I'm further south than the cyclone so we'll be unaffected. Up north they've had an extremely wet summer and this certainly won't help after the damage they've already suffered. PESO: Crane Fly
A crane fly emerging from its pupa in an old tree stump in our back yard. My wife saw some of these a few evenings ago and seems to have managed to identify them. Today she spotted one emerging while there was still enough light to get a photo. I had to turn up the ISO to 6400 and also set -1 exposure compensation as the camera was blowing out the highlights a bit. That got me all the way to 1/180 at f/8. http://gallery.multi.net.nz/photo/1198/#peso Pentax K5ii, FA 100mm f/2.8 macro I'd have got much better results with a tripod but I wasn't about to hang around setting one up with mosquitoes biting. I snapped a whole lot of frames handheld while hoping to get at least one in reasonable focus, while contorting myself to try and get the plane of focus along the insect's body (as much as the foreground would allow).
