People have complained about gt;the build quality but while it is certainly not up to the standards of the gt;original F series (that khaki coloured ones) and earlier lenses (A, M, gt;etc) - it is no worse than other FA lenses. It is very light and compact, gt;sharp, has well controlled distortion, and is one of the only consumer zooms gt;with constant f4. gt; gt;I don't know personally how it would compare optically to the 28-80 F3.5-5.6 gt;FA AL but it is said to be much better and it is obviously one stop faster gt;at the long end (where it matters most). gt; gt;The 28-70f4 has one quirk and that is that it needs filters with extra-thin gt;frames as normal thickness filter rings cause it to vignette at the 28mm gt;setting (causing a slight darkening of the corners). I would guess that gt;even the thinnest polarising filters would be out of the question. gt; gt;As an aside: gt;When I first bought the lens I didn't know thin filters were available and gt;suffered some frustration as I agonised over whether to use a protective gt;filter (and suffer vignetting) or use the lens unprotected. In the end I gt;discovered and bought an (expensive) UV Hoya Pro-1 filter which also had the gt;benefit of a 12 layer multicoating. It was just as well that I got the gt;filter as an ostrich I was photographing rushed over and pecked the lens gt;putting a small mark on the filter that no amount of cleaning could remove. gt;It is possible that Hoya's multi-coating is quite soft as I wouldn't have gt;thought an ostrich's beak was very hard. RE: zx-l
See, im very temped to get a Maxxum 70, seeing that I have a 70-210F4 lens for it. However I have 4 Pentax lenses and 2 bodies(ZX-50 and a Ricoh XR-10 super-which I love). Waiting on the new 100mm F2.8 macro really. Now if it's worth it ( the mz-6/zx-l ) I'll spring for it ( it's $189 at Adorama.com - plus a $30 rebate would bring it to $159 ). They both cost the same. If the new 100mm macro is around $500, then I may have to wait. Thanks Guys. Chris _ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963

My wife and I are gong to setup a small yet unique business and I we would be doing alot of landscape and nature shots. I really want to be prepared for when a customer asks for a large print or a high definition print. The camera will be bought in conjunction with the Minolta Dimage Multi Pro Medium format scanner so we will get something like a 80Mege Pixel image which should make for some nice sized prints and also some really nice panoramas when the negative is cropped. Got any comparative images to show us ?? I'm just getting into the Photography gig and I got myself a Scan Dual II in nov. At the moment 2820 dpi seems a bit for me. Would be very interested to see how it compares to the Kodak. Thanks. I didn't think going from the 2820dpi of my Minolta Scan Multi up to the 3600dpi of the Kodak scanner would be that big a jump in quality. Wow, was I wrong! I just did my first scan and it's absolutely amazing! The level of detail revealed in a 35mm slide has to be seen to be believed. I'm doing a small exhibition of my running photos in February and I'll definitely be scanning everything on this baby. In fact, everything I intend to print (other than medium format, of course) is going to get scanned on this from now on. I'm very impressed. It's kind of overpriced in the current market (around $900.00 I think) because it doesn't have the digital ICE dust scratch removal and it's construction is decidedly flimsy. On the plus side, it comes with 10 36-exposure rolls of Kodak Supra 400 and until Jan 31, it comes with a coupon for 100 free rolls of Kodak professional film. Yep, 100 rolls. That brings the effective price down by a lot! (I expect when the rebate offer runs out they'll lower the price of the scanner to a more reasonable level.) -- Mark Roberts www.robertstech.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Good, cheap Pentax loupe
Thanks Mike Johnston wrote: pentax-discuss-digest at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Now for the Loupe. What goes into the selection process for a Loupe ? I see some cheap ones in the under 10USD range and then some rather expensive blokes in the more than 100USD and this is for the same magn. 8x. What really is needed ? I'd concider once I get my desired magn. 8x and I can see the entire frame from a 35mm slide I'm happy. Like always something tells me there's much more to this. Please enlighten me. Best store-bought loupes are Rodenstocks. If you want a good one for almost no money, go to eBay and look for a Pentax 55mm screwmount lens (SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8). I use one of these as a loupe and it's better than any of the cheaper loupes I have. No distortion, very sharp. It won't show a whole slide at once, though. You can get one for peanuts. And it's Pentax! I find it's all the loupe I ever need. --Mike - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. It is a good, sharp lens for a moderate price. It is also lightweight. It is a bit soft at f5.6, but quite good after that. Joe - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Sigma 100-300 F/4
Are you by chance using it with and MZM ? Or manual pentax ? Trying to make sure that there will be no problems because of the lack of AF on the MZM. Christien. ps got pics btw ? - Original Message - From: Michael Perham [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 10:05 AM Subject: Re: Sigma 100-300 F/4 I assume you are referring to the Sigma EX series with the constant f4 aperture. This is an excellent lens, I have one and am very pleased with it; it has also received very good reviews in several photo mag's, including Pop Photo. It is a substantial piece of glass if you are used to consumer grade lenses in this focal length with variable apertures. However, if you can handle the price and the weight, this is a high quality lens both optically and mechanically, and one of the very few with this focal length in a pro grade lens. Cheers, Mike.
