Re: Pentax Mirrorless: This is interesting

The goal of Pentax is to make money, not serious photographic tools. There is
much more market for a very small camera that is better than a cell phone than
a great camera that is smaller than a K-x.

Re: Pentax Mirrorless: This is interesting

Most people don't care about IQ as much as convenience, and in a few years the
performance of small sensor systems should catch up with aps of not too long
ago. From a long term marketing view, its probably a good choice.
My credit card appreciqates that choice too.

Re: Sigma 20/1.8 and 24/1.8

2010-12-05 Thread Larry Colen (Droid Mail)
I have very mixed feelings about mine. Manual focus on it is nearly useless.
Especially in low light. As such it has proven much less useful than hoped for
low light dance photography. But I may revise my opinion once I have a K5.
I've been surprised at how often a wide macro comes in handy.
It may not be the sharpest wide open but there are uundoubtably cases where
it's sharper at 1/40 second than my 16-50 is at 1/15.

Re: Benbo Trekker Mk3 Compact Tripod

2010-11-21 Thread Larry Colen (Droid Mail)
This thread has intrigued me, not that I should be spending money on toys.
Readeing about it though, it doesn't seem quite like the tripod for long
nighttime exposures but it might be good for a hike in the woods and macros of
stuff on the ground...
When I was a kid we had a tripod with a rotating center column, which I really
liked.

Re: K7 or Kx

2010-08-31 Thread Larry Colen (Droid Mail)
The K7 has quite a little cult following, basically with performance about two
years ahead of its time for the price. I wonder if it'll be one of those items
that maintains its cult status, or if it'll be eclipsed by the next new thing.
If Pentax can learn from what they've gotten right on the kx (and the k7) and
correct their shortcomings in future models, they could kick some serious butt
in the market place.
What it would take would be a k7, with incrementally better focus and metering,
kx sensitivity, Kx color choices, and in the stores.
And yes, I'm serious about the color choices, they attract people's attention,
they would try it out just out of curiousity.
