Re: pef vs dng
At least with my K10D, I found that the lens metadata wasn't retained when shooting DNG in-camera. This is a big deal for me as I like to view what images I have taken with what lens. What I do is shoot PEF and import into Lightroom as compressed DNGs. I am quite happy with this arrangement as the lens metadata is retained and available for filtering. I've no idea if this has been changed in more recent cameras. I shoot with a K20D now but have never reverified this behavior. -- Matthew Montgomery matt...@electricjunk.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

That is incorrect. There is nothing in a PEF that isn't in a DNG file. Interesting. Perhaps a more apt description is at the time I was using the K10D when I shot DNG in-camera no lens metadata was able to be read by Lightroom. If I shot PEF in-camera and converted to DNG during import into Lightroom, the lens metadata was available. Based on this, I just left it on PEF and haven't looked back since. This would have been the version of Lightroom (1.x) that was out when the K10D was the current model and when I first tested. Since the K10D DNGs aren't compressed I was converting the in-camera DNG via the import. Perhaps I was hitting some bug? It was previously confirmed that this didn't occur with the K20D so I just tried it. My in-camera DNG was saved to a 24.2 MB file. Upon import/conversion using Lightroom v2.4 the resulting DNG is 14.7 MB. All the metadata is there as one would expect. I don't have my K10D anymore but my guess, based on your description, is that I was running into something with *that* version of Lightroom. It certainly has improved on the EXIF front as when I first got the 35mm limited it didn't recognize the lens ID but this was fixed in either v2.3 or v2.4 if I recall. Glad to know there really wasn't any missing info from the camera version. The thing worked a treat. It was all done in less than a minute (took longer to read the instructions :-) So I highly recommend the Pentax Imagesensor Cleaning Kit O-ICK1 kit to anyone. It's dead easy to use cheaper than a lot of the cleaning systems on the market. I just got a K20D to replace my K10D, couldn't resist the price. To my dismay though it came with a nice visible spec of dust on the sensor. I see the manual lists the official cleaning kit as an accessory. What an up-sell strategy, shipping a new body with dust already present. ;-) Going to get the blower out later today and hopefully make my new camera like new. - Matthew -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

The way the viewfinder works, it is easy to see, clearly and accurately, even with the manual iris set at f/11 and the MF Assist magnification function allows precise and accurate focusing even with that short a lens, at that opening, in normal light. The metering is extremely accurate and you get a 100% coverage view, with good magnification and full information if you want it. I tell ya, I'm so excited by the possibilities of this camera I can't wait to learn it and make some photos with it. Godfrey If Pentax would build a body designed with the same goals as the DA Limiteds I would buy it in a second. Give it something like the K20D sensor, an EVF and an overall size similar to the G1.
