If the contacts are basic I don't think it will function any differently
than a non-"KA" lens. I have a couple of 3rd party KA lenses without

they operate.

When using a Tamron lens with the KA adapter on a D series body, what
functions do we have? The adapter is not lens specific, its mount
contacts are basic...

I was just poking around the KEH site and saw a LN- (Like New Minus) istD
for $665.00. That's pretty close to1/2 the price of a new one, and
considering the KEH reputation, seems like someone here might want to grab
it.

2005-10-03 Thread R.C.Booth
Frank, I use a Minolta Dimage IV and am very pleased with it. However I
would advise looking for a scanner with Digital Ice software bundled with
it. The Dimage does not but I have purchased LaseSoft Imaging's SilverFast

Hi all,

I'm not yet ready to dump my analog camera and buy a digital camera (for
example a ist-ds). In fact I want to wait for the istD2 and hope it has an
aperture coupler so I'll be able to use my K/M lenses as I'm used to.
However, the prices of prints is getting outrageous, about six times more
expensive than internet printing services. So I'm thinking about buying a
filmscanner to fill the gap till the D2 comes. I need a cheap solution
that gives me good pictures up to 13x18 cm prints. Bigger I'll do the old
fashioned expensive :-(( way. Any advice?

No more distraught than I am. I had the camera but three days and only
made 9,786 exposures. I was just starting to get used to it.

The camera arrived back at the seller yesterday, late afternoon. Perhaps
I'll get some information today about the replacement. Their web site
showed no DS's in their stock yesterday, so I was a bit concerned. Late
last night the DS kit with the 18~55 lens showed up, so maybe a
replacement

is now on hand. Quite a saga, what with the camera, the FedEx delivery
f***-up, the Flash Memory Store screwing me on the SD card, and then
having

to return the defective camera. Combined, all good reasons to stick with
Tri-X and a manual camera. In fact, good reason to take up finger painting

I agree. Faster AF hasn't been an issue for me since all I have are manual

image quality and how it handles and the D does very well in each respect.
And, I've begun to figure out the processing of RAW files and am very

This camera feels like a normal film camera and has a minum of control knobs

I bet prints from digital media is the bulk of their business now.
Although
there are a fair number of film diehards around here. But as it is lab

Re: The Nature of Film's Final Throes

2005-08-26 Thread R.C.Booth

"Yee ha! I don't have to bother getting prints to see my photos any

more!" No more boxes of prints to store!

I suspect a lot of regular consumers (not all of them) feel this way,
too. Having boxes of prints to store is a hassle. Perhaps they'll regret
it years down the road, after a major hard drive crash, but the number
of people I've known with lost negatives and prints over the years makes
me think it's a case of "plus ca change..." Digital doesn't make it
*more* likely that people will lose their precious family photos, it
just means it'll happen in a different way.

The average digital consumer probably isn't going to print all his shots
anyway, just a few of the ones he needs or considers "keepers" So, there is
the potential for less consumer paper use with digital even though there is
the potential for taking more shots (cheaply) with digital.

Perhaps its a minefield if one expects total compatibility of all lenses
with all bodies but, its really not so bad. For example, Non-AI lenses can
be easily and cheaply modified and some AI bodies will accept non-AI lenses.
For the most part its nice to know that purchasing a new body would not
require the acquistion of an entirely new set of lenses. I think this is
also a point in favor of Pentax as well: that older K mount lenses can
still be used with the latest bodies.
