Yes, it was FGZ 360 with the "Catch lite" white plane pulled out. Its

Re: Shooting film (Velvia)

2007-11-09 Thread dao_
Hello,

Thanks to all who answered to my topic!
This is just one of my first tries of the slide film. I really like
the colors of the slide, especially Velvia. I tried to print in the
lab directly through the film, but as it being scanned first on the lab
"machine" and then printed digitally it was completely disappointed.
With the Nikon scanner results seems to be very good. I tried with the
flatbed scanners but the result is too poor.
I just wonder about the film and digital, of cause I do not want to
rise up the question about what is better etc. I'm interesting in why
people still shoot film? As I looked through the net I can find a lot
of different answers. Is there any particular reasons for who shoot
both film and digital that film gives better results? As I can see in
some cases I like film more in other - digital.

Shooting film (Velvia)

2007-11-08 Thread dao_
Hello,

May be this will be interesting for who still shot film.

I just tried the new Velvia 50 (RVP 50). Actually, I have to say that
I did not shoot any "old" or "classic" Velvia as I could not find it.
I'm very pleased with the results. It is easy to scan this film on my
Nikon Coolscan V ED. What I actually found that in some aspects it is
easier to work with the scans in PS as with the digital images
captured by my DS. Especially I like photos with the lot of bright
reds and yellows. It is hard for me to capture such photos by the DS -
this bright colors usually lose a lot of tones.
As for the Velvia, I like its colours and contrast. And I was
suprised by its little grain. I print one of the photo without any
retushing especially without removing grain. On the 20x30 (cm) photo
it is very hard to find the grain! But on the monitor it can be seen.

One of the example (may be not the best for me) is hear:

  http://not.contaxg.com/document.php?id=19477&full=1

I don't know if somebody still shoot film. If so, it would be very
interesting to talk to such photographers.

As for the lighting it was quite simple. I just put f/11 to put a

called 'catch light' in the manual as I remember) brings the flower

Thank You veru much againe. I felt that K versions are almost
slightly better then others (i.e. regarding K28/3.5 and M28/3.5 and

AF 360 FGZ and P-TTL mechanizm

2004-12-10 Thread dao_
Hello,

I just bought Pentax AF 360 FGZ flash for my Pentax MZ-6 camera,
and I've got some quastion about it.
First one (and most interesting for me) concerns to P-TTL
mode. The quastion is: how the lite after "pre-flash" is measured? Is
it measured by the sensor that measure reflected from the film lite,
or is it measured by the main sensor?
 - My opinion is that it is measured by the main sensor.
If it is true - then the new quastion arrise:
How dose the camera separetes the ambient lite and lite from
flash for calculating right flash impuls ammount?

Second quastion is about P-TTL mode with the wireless mode. The
quastion is about how camera controls flash ammount (using built-in
flash)? Dose it use built in flash to transfer the nessessary
information or dose it uses some kind of radio relays? (Such relays
should be present because of the existence of different channels on
camera and flash). If such channels present then why camera gives the
commands to the flash by the pulses of bilt-in flash??? Why just not
to transfer the information by radio if it already used for some
purposes (instead of built in flash)? This is one of the most
 confusing me.

Third quastion is about "M" (manual) mode on the camera. Is it ok to
use manual mode on the camera together with the flash (on camera and
wireless)? Dose any one have the expierence with this? (i.e. I have
50mm lense. When using "A" mode (aperture priority) then camera
always set the expose time to "45", and I whant to use, say "90" with
the same value of apperture (say "8.0") - then I can switch to "M"
mode - and set all parameters as I need ("90/8.0") - will flash
operates ok under such conditions?) (If I switch to shurter speed
priority and set "90", camera will always set the minimum diaphragm
(when the lite is not enough, say in the room in the evening)).

I'm very sorry about my post. This is my fault. I did searched the pdml.org
for the rules and abbriviations (like PAW, PESO etc), but I didn't found any one.
I think that the rool You mentioned is wise one. I will try not to break it againe.
