RIP Bill Cunningham

2016-07-03 Thread Stanley Halpin
About 90% of the Style section of today’s New York Times is a tribute to Bill
Cunningham a street fashion photographer. Stories about him, personal
recollections, etc. Nicely done. Check it out if you have access to this
edition of the paper.

BTW, this may be considered OT, as he apparently shot with Nikon gear. But an
interesting story nonetheless.

Daniel alerted us to this film way back in 2011, and I've had it in my
Netflix queue for about 8 months now, but I finally started watching
it and I will add my voice to Daniel's in highly recommending it. It
is interesting and entertaining on multiple levels.

If you haven't seen it and have NetFlix, I recommend giving it a
"look-see". Probably also available in other streaming venues.

looks very interesting. I happen to work with someone with that name.

Tying this into the Essential Kit thread, I disagree with Cunningham about
the desirability of lots of pockets for photo stuff. I used to think it was
a good idea until I found myself in crowded markets and having to defend all
those pockets from thieves.

I don't think you need more than 2 pockets. One is hidden and zipped and
contains the valuables. The other is a shirt pocket containing a visible but
worthless banknote to distract & identify the bad guys.

Regret - I missed out on tickets to Bill Cunningham New York

2010-06-01 Thread Derby Chang

I hope this comes out on blu ray eventually.

http://tix.sff.org.au/session2.asp?sn=Bill+Cunningham+New+York

The blurb is out of date. He no longer lives in Carnegie Hall. In one of
his best blogs to date, Bill is nostalgic. That must have been a fun
place to live.

Was it just me, or did anyone else find it strange that there were no
links to actual samples of his work. I would have liked to take a look.
