RE: Boris PESO 2010 #07
I love this shot. On my screen I don't have any burnt highlights, but the 4th rock from the left is close. I can still see detail in it though. To me, the whole scene has a soft, subdued feel (colour-wise, I mean), and as I tend to always favour over-saturated, high contrast shots (for my own work), I find it refreshing and calming. Oh, and ultra sharp! I really like the patterns of the clouds the way they seem to pointing directly toward the tree. Really nice, IMO! :) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Unless you have the two monitors side by side, it's difficult to tell if one is brighter than the other. There are normally brightness (and other screen appearance altering) adjustment buttons somewhere along the base frame of the monitor. ..But I suspect you knew that. I see this more in a portrait orientation, with the tree left of center and most of the scene left of the tree eliminated. The clouds in the RH side drawing the eye to the tree. Re: Boris PESO 2010 #07
OKAY..OKAY, Tom. Highlights are severely "clipped" resulting in much lost detail in the too bright rocks. There now I've said it. ;-)) Seriously, if the shot had been made from a short ways to the right wherein the tree were allowed to remain in approximately its present position in the frame, the larger boulders would not combine with the tree and throw off the balance to the right. The perspective, however, may have suffered if the far left boulders were no as distinct. Re: Boris PESO 2010 #07
I think it's a great shot. I don't see a washout problem here, it's difficult lighting and I see lot's of detail in the lightly colored rocks as well as the darker areas. My only thought, had I taken the shot, is that the tree is just a little awkwardly positioned too close to center. A little further to the right would probably make it feel slightly more balanced, rising above the right sight of the foreground rock as opposed to the left. Easy for me to say without knowing what was cropped out of the frame. Very nice. Re: Boris PESO 2010 #07
Boris, I like the composition, but the boulders (smaller rocks as well) are much too hot. I, also, feel the foreground, as a whole, is somewhat washed out. Suggest darkening both the boulders and ground and adding a slight bump of saturation. Re: Boris PESO 2010 #07
The cloud formations help make this a very solid composition. The detraction for me is that it feels rather washed out - I'd almost like to see it more saturated or maybe the other direction B&W. -- Best regards, Bruce Saturday, February 6, 2010, 9:25:07 AM, you wrote: BL> Hi!
