Re: C41 film for bright conditions?
Hi, I believe, (but I'm not sure though, could be a howler of an urban myth), that certain film companies (I think its Kodak, not sure about Fuji)produces file with different specs for the Australian market, due to the different light there. If this were true, perhaps its better to purchase it there? Michele --- Hi, I am after a C41 film to use on a holiday next month, in 100 and 400iso. Since its summer in Australia it should be pretty bright and contrasty conditions. So a larging lattitude would help. Any reccomendations for a film for this sort of situation? I have been shooting Supra, but find when its shot in bright light it tends to blow out lighter colours. Any one else noticed this? Would adjusting the ISO make any difference to this? I have shot some Reala before, but dont really like it much. Thanks, Paul Jones Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Auctions for all of your unique holiday gifts! Re[2]: C41 film for bright conditions?
Michele, That certainly sounds like an urban myth. I could see them selling a different film altogether for some reason (and not offering it to certain markets), but I would be surprised if there is a Supra 400 US, Supra 400 AUS, etc. Anyone out there heard of this? I think you're looking not for a film with more latitude but instead for one with lower contrast -- latitude is more like information held in the neg beyond the upper and lower limits of the paper to display that information when printed, and contrast is more like how much of that information gets to the paper. I'd recommend something like Fuji or Kodak's pro portrait films -- Fuji NPS 160 and NPH 400, or Kodak Portra 160NC and 400NC (but the Kodak Portra VCs are more contrasty, so you don't want 'em, likewise Fuji's NPC and Reala). For the ultimate in low contrast colour neg film, you can pick up some Agfa Portrait, but under most normal shooting conditions I find it too flat. -Aaron - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Hi Bruce, It did deal with that snow pretty well. I'll grab a role and give it a test before i go. Paul, If you don't like Reala, you might consider Agfa Optima II 100 and/or Konica Impressa 50. The Konica is lower contrast. The Agfa holds up pretty well to contrast too. See my image in the PUG http://pug.komkon.org/01oct/bkdpug.html for an example.
