are the Pentax 100mm dental macros more rare/collectible than the ordinary

I could get one for 95 euros (M-version), although I want to check it out
for possible lens separation first.
In France current price for ordinary 4/100 macro is 150 €.
95 for Dental version is a good price !

Yes, in the sense that there aren't as many of 'em out there.
However, I've never really heard of a whole lot of "excitement" over
collecting them...

That's a good price for any Pentax 100/4 macro lens (dental or
otherwise), I'd say.

There are (from my experience) no poor Pentax macro lens designs.
And there seem to be (from my experience) no poor 90mm, 100mm, or
105mm macro designs from any of the 3rd-party companies, either. My
wife uses the A 100/4 Macro (optically the same as the M and the
dental), and it's a good lens (although my favorite is the A 100/2.8
Macro). My only negatives about the Pentax 100/4 Macro design are
that f/4 is sometimes a little slow, and that the bokeh is a little
harsh (but this is not an uncommon macro trait).

RE: Some technical questions (dental macros)

2003-05-31 Thread Michael Perham
Some of the specialized Dental or Medical lenses I have seen, are in fact
just like an 100 mm macro lens optically. However, many have a built in
flash that surrounds the lens to allow flat lighting for the subject. This
would be like buying a regular 100 macro lens and an AF 140C flash that has
a circular flash head that clips on the the front of the lens.
...cheers!

Just a plain old 100mm macro lens...
Sell it to the Dental Professionals (dentists) as a pro tool at a 'special'
price (big $$$). They use it for showing the work they did and getting
approval for work they will do from the medical payment authority (insurance
plan).
(Think of it like getting approval from the state before you proceed with
the
work if you have nationalized medical care.)

"Dental" macros

2002-12-27 Thread Bojidar Dimitrov
Hi all,

We know that the M100/4 and A100/4 "dental" macro lenses are
mechanically and optically identical to the "non-dental" macros, and
that the only difference are the magnification ratios in yellow and and
red.

But now I am not sure if the word "DENTAL" is part of the name enscriben
on the ring around the front element. Does anyone own one of the two
dental lenses? Can you please tell me the exact lens name?

Thanks a lot and Happy New Year!
Boz
