Ebay LX Thingie

2002-02-19 Thread Jeff Post

The only thing I could think of as I was looking at it was that it was to
do the same function as the roller that is in that spot in newer LX
cameras. That way, as the motor drive is chugging along, it is keeping the
film taunt for the takeup spools.

Re: spotted on ebay: LX ????

2002-01-16 Thread Bmacrae

Christian...

I was just about to list this same question on the list?

What is up? 3200 ASA in 1980? It is a pre-1982 serial number according to the list I
usually reference and it does have the earlier shutter-lock collar but the faster ASA
range I don't get. Also, $800US...I'm sorry, but I wouldn't pay that for a lx2000.
And, did you notice that the camera is missing part of the lug on the bottom left in
the picture? Geez, I don't understand some eBayers.

All I can say is I wish I was selling it. I'd buy a 6x7 with that dough...

Fred,

Thanks for the info.

Are you saying this is a reasonable price? If so I disagree.

That's why I question a eBay member bidding up an LX that high,
especially an early model.

Hi Dave,

I'd be more than happy to sell you CDN $800 worth of cold, hard Canadian
currency for US $1250. In fact, I'd be happy to sell it to you for just US
$800. Such a deal, eh?

Just pullin' yer leg, of course. I think the current exchange rate is --
what -- 64 US cents per CDN $1? Or thereabouts? You're multiplicationing

$799-$899 CDN may be a fair price for a cosmetically good looking
LX from a reputable dealer, but I think that would convert to only
about $500-$600 USD (which also sounds reasonable).

Certainly, Dave, $800 USD for an LX from an eBay seller who has
slipped in an as is statement seems much too high.

No, Brendan, I think it's already too high (at $800 the last time I
checked). It does look like it's in pretty good shape for a 1980 LX,
but the seller is selling it as is (if I read his somewhat low-key
mention of that correctly). That's a lot of money for an old LX
that may already be showing signs of sticky mirror, and which cannot
be returned.

Thats crazy. 800 bucks US for an old style LX? Sheesh, last
year, I bought a recently serviced LX, with a winder, and the
FB-1 and FC-1 and the regular finder and a never ready case for
900 bucks Canadian.
After I sold what parts of it I didn't want, the camera body and
winder cost me about 500 bucks.

I would be a wee bit cautious of that one. It looks
good, but why has this exact same camera been up for
auction before? I seem to remember seeing it twice
before on two different occasions. I know I've seen it
at least once before, about 2 or 3 days before the
current auction started.

Some ebay LX comments

2001-03-05 Thread David P. Chernicoff

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=1215748651

I received the above listed equipment I won in an ebay auction today.
Initially I was somewhat disappointed because my first impression was that
the equipment was significantly more beat up than the auction indicated.

A more detailed examination yielded a somewhat different impression. The LX
body is probably an 8+, with the exception of the rewind lever, which has
almost completely lost it's plastic sheathing. I plan on contacting Pentax
USA and finding out if that can be replaced. The rest of the body is in
excellent condition, with minor brassing on a few edges.

The FA-1 finder condition is best described as "must have been used to
hammer nails." A couple of serious dents, white paint missing from the
letters that spell out PENTAX, and a somewhat dirty field of view. The poor
external condition of the finder was what gave me my initial negative
impression.

The SMC-M 35mm f/2.0 is what KEH would likely call "bargain" condition. The
lens body shows significant wear, with the finish gone from any sharp
edges. The lens operates perfectly, and the glass is clean.

The Winder LX is 9.0 shape, with the exception that the leatherette is
starting to peel in two spots. A judicious application of adhesive should
fix that. The previous owner did not, however, store the winder caps in the
spots reserved for them in the winder, so they are missing.

Despite the somewhat rough overall appearance, the camera seemed to
function perfectly once fresh batteries were installed. No sticky mirror,
no infinity focus problems.

I put my Dial Data back on the body and shot two rolls of film, 12
exposures each of 200 and 400 Kodak Gold. Presuming I can get to the local
photo shop tomorrow, I'll have the film developed and scan the negatives to
see how things turned out.
