Thanks Peter. I have downloaded it just in case. My main computer runs
Windows XP, but I have a backup computer with Win 2000 and that DLL
might be useful.

though I really don't like it's taking over every aspect of photo
management. Now this hasn't bothered me too much as the new Pentax
Camera Utility 4 has a much improved user interface, (even though I find
it's batch capabilities inferior to RawShooter), but hell it's free.
Well, not free exactly. You pay for the license when you buy the camera
it's sort of Free).

Well the latest upgrade which supposedly included some processing
enhancements no longer ran under Win2K. Though it no longer needs an
original CD to install, (Pentax giveth, Pentax taketh away).

The actual error when attempting to run the application was Cannot find
'UxTheme.dll' with a system path that included /winnt/system32.

UXTheme.dll is a WinXp and later OS file that is redraws controls,
(doesn't MS ever get tired of screwing up their OS). Well I couldn't let
that stand. I mean really The damned software installs it should run!

I was able to find a cross compiled version of that DLL originally
written for Wine, (a linex Windows emulator), which seems to allow the
latest version of PCU4 to run on Win2K. I haven't noticed any major
improvement in performance, but some of the dialogs now display better.
I'll either be complaining bitterly and reverting to the previous
version of the PCU4 or not mention it again and just happily use the
improved version. I guess this should stand me in good stead as the
latest version of PCU4 supports the K-5 if I have no further problems.

The upshot of this is if anyone would like fix, I'll be happy to put a
text file with instructions and copies of the necessary files in a
dropbox folder.

Yep, I sure would appreciate it, I have come across a handful of apps
that behave badly under WK2 for the same reason.

Ditto.

My main PC uses Win 7 but I have an old backup PC on Win2000 that
might(!) have to be pressed back into service at some stage.

Here it is. It's really simple as Pi. Download the zip file and read
the readme.txt file.

Thanks PJ.

I thought I'd try it out on a Win2000 system that I have running in
Virtual Box on my Win 7 computer.

Without the new DLLs I got the same error as you did for version 4.21 of
the Pentax Camera Utility (PCU). After extracting the DLLs to the
system32 directory, the PCU start graphic appeared but froze at that
point. After about 20 seconds a message box appeared stating that the
program couldn't start because of lack of memory or space on the hard
disk. That's entirely possible as Win 2000 is running on quite a small
virtual disk. Interestingly though, version 4.11 had no such problems.

Anyway, it looks as if your solution works. Thanks, again.

Cheers
