I'm not entirely thrilled with the stock shade and lens cap, I'm certain that if
I were to use them for any length of time I'd lose the fancy metal lens cap.

You can find genuine, felt lined, metal, Pentax replacement caps for Limited
Lenses on eBay for ~ $35 Buy-it-now (shipping included).

At least you could in August 2017.

My only dealing with Precision was over 40 years ago, they haven't
changed, I'm embarrassed to live in the state that they're headquartered
in.  I wish only their destruction.

Yes, I do carry a grudge a long time, but at the time I was a retailer,
in their industry, and you'd think that they'd at least pretend to give
someone in that position, some courtesy.

They didn't.

If they would take in a camera, inform the owner that it could not be
repaired under warranty for a known problem, (that normally should have
been covered), have the out of warranty charges approved by said owner,
then return the camera without actually fixing problem, (but making the
cosmetic issue that supposedly voided said warranty worse, by "fixing"
that), I hesitate to think how'd they'd treat a customer with no
connection and in no position to hurt their business.

This probably is going to seriously suck:
My 15-30 came back from Precision. On the bright side, it does seem to
autofocus now, although it didn't one of the times I tested it.

The tag came back
Returning unit unrepaired, unit is BER due to liquid damage.
There was no charge on the tag.

So, it may have shown up, they took it apart, put it back together and
it may be working fine, for no charge, which would be awesome if the
problem was just a connector that got knocked loose, but if something
is fubar inside and will progressively get worse, then this is really
going to suck.

Precision's customer relations is unnecessarily bad.  It would be
trivial for them to be able to email the customer when important
milestones are reached. I could spend a page and a half on the whole
sordid tale, but I'm desperately short on fucks to give.  If I do ever
change camera brands though, Precision would be a major reason.  On
facebook, a friend commented that he has the same grief with them and
Sony.
