Re: GESO: Quebec city & Ice hotel
Thanks Marnie; yes, the carvings on ice are impressive, I don't think my photos make them enough justice. The guys wearing masks are part of Quebec City's carnival, I really don't know what they are suppose to be, just looked like a spooky photo ;-) Joseph, definitelly, all that ice is an invitation to sip your prefered high ethanol content beverage ;-) and thanks David and everyone else who commented. Makes me want to retire to the chair in front of the fire and sip a Jack. Really enjoyed the intricate carvings and impressions in the snow. A tradition I've never been involved in. Good to see. Yes, this one's bar is like that as well: ice glasses, coloured vodka beverages; I believe there is (or used to be) a bar here in Toronto that had glasses made of ice by keeping the room temperature at -5C. Re: GESO: Quebec city & Ice hotel
There's also another ice hotel at Chena Hots Springs, Alaska, a little north & east of Fairbanks - they pour their vodka into glasses made of ice. The hotel melts in the spring and is rebuilt in early winter. The hotel is heavily visited by orientals. Something about the northern lights & fertility. I can see that. Returning back to Toronto felt like summer ;-) I don't know if people really spend the night at the Ice Hotel, I know I couldn't. I was wearing a heavy parka (Canada Goose expedition parka - the one they use for the Artic program) and tons of layers plus winter boots, and after one hour inside that humongous ice cube I started to get numb fingers&toes. I can't imaging what you can wear to get you through a night on an ice bed...
