Re: HELP ME!!!!!! OK I will try.
I see I'm well behind. I started at Step 1 10 years ago, and am still stuck at Step 1. I am thinking of Step 2, but haven't seen a 28mm. Those pancake ones are so cute. Where does the step of trying to pull apart your Spotmatic to fix the meter come in? I am trying that at the moment. Have got the film indicator dial off, but am a bit stuck with the microscopic screws on the wind-on lever. If only I could find a quality screwdriver. Frank, Yes, there is... 1st step - buy a Spotmatic with 50mm. 2nd step - buy a 28mm 3rd step - buy a 135mm 4th step - buy a 50mm Macro 5th step - buy a 300mm (but it was such a bargain) 6th step - buy a screwmount bellows Gosh, I screwed up. I bought my Spotmatic with the now infamous 300/3.5 Rexatar and substituted a 200mm at step 4. Also, my screwmount autobellows included a slide copier and cost an outrageous $50.00 USD for both. Don't do it. You have far too many other things to do to waste time playing with a new camera. There is the LX Gallery to finish, and the PUG to work on. Stop being so bloody weak. You don't see me running down to my local camera shop to try out (a.k.a. buy) an MZ-S. In fact I don't even want one. It just doesn't do it for me. I'd much rather have an old manual thing any day. Of course if someone was giving me one, it may be a different matter, but they're not. Frank T. pleaded: I there a 12-step group for Spotmatic owners? :-) Yes. Here are the usual twelve steps: 1. You acquire, or are given, a Spotmatic casually. 2. Then you figure, Hey, I could actually use this old thing. You do, and you like it. 3. So you look into learning a bit about the Spotmatic line. 4. Next, you discover that M42 screwmount lenses are surprisingly good. 5. ...And surprisingly cheap. 6. After some research into the various models, you buy another Spotmatic, this time shopping carefully and getting just what you've decided you want. 7. It's good, too. 8. You begin haunting online auctions and used equipment ads for the Super-Taks and SMC-Taks you want, and buying them in. 9. The opportunity presents itself, so you acquire a third Spotmatic, just in case. 10. You've bought books. Now you discover Gerjan's wonderful book on Pentax screwmount stuff. 11. You draw up a list of everything that your ideal collection of Spotmatic equipment would contain. 12. You spend hours happily looking for the pieces you don't have, and, as you photograph, often pause to admire and appreciate your beautiful Spotmatic gear, saying to yourself some variation of, They don't build 'em the way they used to. Re: HELP ME!!!!!! OK I will try.
Hey, you hit the nail square on the head Mike!! You missed a few, though: 1. Notice that the meter is pooched, 2. Find a decent repair shop that can scrounge a meter from a dead Spottie, or knows how to modify a K1000 meter to fit. 3. Curse Pentax for making meters that only last 25 or 30 years! 4. Discover that your mercury cell went dead after only 10 years. 5 Scour camera shops that still carry them, and buy up their last 6 or 10, so that you have a lifetime supply (hopefully, unless you accidently leave the meter switch on - or leave the lens cap off if you have an F) 6. Realize that you have one of the best systems ever made, with some of the best lenses (both optically and mechanically) ever made, that you can still pick up used for a (relative) song and dance. 7. Be happy! -frank Mike Johnston wrote: Frank T. pleaded: I there a 12-step group for Spotmatic owners? :-) Yes. Here are the usual twelve steps: 1. You acquire, or are given, a Spotmatic casually. 2.
