Re: Home from GFM
I was so up from my time at the mountain that I ended up driving nonstop home, chasing the moon. Was so great to meet all these names from the list and to be so accepted. Left at about 2:00pm Eastern and pulled into my drive at 4:30am Central. While trying to struggle with the front door at home, Diane opens it and says, Oh!, I thought it was the cat wanting in. I have gotten some sleep but seem to be only operating at 50% or so. Will post more later, Christine told me I must post. Much to do here to catch up on my chores. I knew I should have mowed the yard before I left for GFM. Anyone that wonders if they should attend GFM, one simple answer, YES! Could anyone that attended the Sunday morning presentation by Pam Barbour, could you please email that url she gave us, off list? Later Ted ps I also ended up bringing home more beer than I took. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Not Home from GFM Yet, but
thought I'd just pop in to say GFM was terrific, and we're going back next year. I'll post pics and comments when we get home. We tramped around Nashville, TN today revisiting ole'Broadway. Tomorrow we're headed for a little cabin in Giant City State Park in Makanda, Il, then home. Re: Not Home from GFM Yet, but
We too are still on the road back from GFM. We stopped in the Smokeys last evening and waited for sundown at the first turnout north of Newfound Gap. (A tip from a GFM presentation a year or two ago.) The weather was cooperative and the view was good, but we were too early. We waited for 1 1/2 hours, but were still 45 minutes too early. We were both hungry and it was after 8 PM. Will plan better next year. Today we tramped across Kentucky from I75 to I65, on the aledgedly 'scenic' road thru the Daniel Boone forest. We caught the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green just before it closed and moved on to Indiana. Chicago tomorrow. The gathering at GFM is very special, thanks largely to the environment that Don Nelson has fostered over the past 20 years. He has had some bad health breaks in the past few years, but he continues to hold us together with this wonderful experience. He's an amazing fellow, accomplished photographer, humorist, consumate gentleman, and thoughtful host. I wish all of you can have the opportunity to meet him and experience some of his wise advice. His many friends, old and new, keep returning to the mountain to share in the banquets he prepares for us. Regards, Bob S. Re: Not Home from GFM Yet, but
One of the special moments this year, not yet mentioned, was a special tribute to Don by many of his close friends and associates. Our own Mark and Doug were among those anointed as speakers and they and the others said well what many of us feel about this wonderful gentleman. stan On Jun 1, 2009, at 10:03 PM, Bob Sullivan wrote: We too are still on the road back from GFM. Home from GFM
Arrived home safe and sound a little after eight o'clock. Got unpacked, started watching the hockey game while trying to read the list posts. GFM was a lot more hectic this year than the last couple. I really missed arriving on Thursday and having that whole other day on the mountain. I'm going to do a blog post like last year. I hope to have it up in a couple days. For now: The Pentax group didn't fare as well in the contest as usual with only three certificates (to one guy who's not on the PDML, or maybe he is but he's a lurker) and one image in the dis-honorable mentions. The K-7 is frackin awesome. Fresh blood did good filling in for the missing regulars. Cotty's son Steff is natural. It DID rain. Scott went home with more beer than he brought to the mountain. Re: Home from GFM
Meg and I felt rushed by our plane schedules but we did hang around long enough to participate in the group photo, then hit the road at 12:09 p.m. The drive to Charlotte air port was not as bad as I had feared, but the airport check in was worse. Still, all in all, a tad under three hours from GFM to the gates - time left over for Meg and I to reflect on the weekend before heading to our separate destinations. Her conclusion - she wants to go back next year. And maybe she will try to be more serious about her photography. And if I get a K-7, maybe she should keep my spare K20D. Sounds like a plan to me! The weekend was great! Spent some time with good people, good photo ops, a dry spell Friday and Saturday (and a deluge early Sunday morning). I stayed awake for almost half of the one presentation I went to, but should probably have just napped. It was fun to fondle the new Pentax toys, and John-the-Pentax-guy helped clear up some issues I had had with my K20 and with a couple of lenses. The Mark and Doug show provided many insights. Cory has already mentioned Doug's assertion that there can never be enough rump in your images. He didn't mention the chorus of Mark! which rose from several spots in the auditorium. Definitely a memorable moment. Thanks to Cory and Scott and Ted and John and Gonz and Christine and Mark and Doug and Cotty and Stef for sharing their food and wine and Gelnfiddich and cast iron skillets and beer and accommodations and photo advice and good conversation and companionship. The Sullivan's aversion to the dubious pleasures of roughing it kept them from much of the campground activity, but our paths intersected often and it is always a pleasure. And it was great to see Bill Owens! And Nico. And I know I am missing someone... Now back to the real world. stan On May 31, 2009, at 9:12 PM, Cory Waters wrote: Arrived home safe and sound a little after eight o'clock.
