No, I don't and I know very many french photographers and amateurs who use the french COKIN filters. I've been using Hama filters so far. They are very well supplied in Poland, not very expensive and there is a new coating formula, called HTMC or High Transmission Multicoating (the producer claims to coat EACH surface of EACH glass layer of which the whole filter glass consists). I'm not sure, however, how well Hama is regarded abroad. So my question is: do you know this brand? And if so, then how do you find it (good or bad)? HAMA distributet for long years HOYA Filters in Germany and made up his own assembling line, with filters from Japan and own metallic settings B + W may have the better reputation in Germany, but HAMA filters are widely common with amateurs. I like the flexibility the Cokin system provides... You know, the only thing to be worried about is the correct adapter, which is cheaper than any filter... It is pretty important, as I have lenses of various diameters: 49 mm to 58 mm... So, are the Cokin filters really so much crap? No, not at all all: We use original PENTAX filters, some few of B + W and many many HAMA filters for technical purposes (Color-conversation, polarization and so on. For effects we like HAMA (*Trickfilter* fr *Verfremdung*) and the COKIN Filtersystem as well. Sincerely Yours Kristian-H. Schuessler - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Hoya, Tiffen (was Re: Cokin filters)
Hi, I'd like to hear(read) your opinion about Hoya and Tiffen filters, because I'm going to buy some. Any advantages/disadvantages to which I should pay attention to? Re: Hoya, Tiffen (was Re: Cokin filters)
And thx for the answer - I thought the Cokin filters were made of glass, not plastic... AFAIK, retangular Cokins are resin while rounded Cokins are glass. I like the flexibility the Cokin system provides... You know, the only thing to be worried about is the correct adapter, which is cheaper than any filter... It is pretty important, as I have lenses of various diameters: 49 mm to 58 mm... So, are the Cokin filters really so much crap? I recommend you buy the largest diameter filters of your lenses and used step-up rings. For instances, I have a stack of 67mm filters and a few step-up (49-67, 52-67, 58-67 etc) rings. And I'll also welcome anything about the Hoya and Tiffen filters (as asked below:)) Hoya filters seem to be known as really top quality... I have been using HOYA for more than 10 years and they are very well made. I have checked some TIFFEN too but they were so poorly made I just returned them (so poor it was hard to believe). IMO, they should revise their manufacturing process rather than spending on some fancy plastic cases which serve no purpose. KENKO are the same as HOYA but available in Japan and HK only AFAIK. regards, Alan Chan _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
