Better make that $10 per picture. Your time should be worth more than
$0.50. The guys that shoot pictures of customers posing with one of the
nude showgirls in strip clubs(titty bars)get $25 for a polaroid print.
If you tried to do it cheaper than that, you'd probably be found dead
somewhere. :-)

I'd switch to medium format if I were to switch brands. Those Mamiya 645's
look nice!

Lon's right.
I'd go back to Olympus. Older Olympus, not any of the new stuff...
They are the closest to Pentax in quality, IMMHO...
Besides, they're what I gave up a LONG standing relationship with, to
come to this current mistress!

35mm I'd go Nikon, and probably digital. I'll probably do this in the
spring of 2004 if Pentax doesn't come out with a DSLR I like.

Medium format I'd go Hasselblad H1, but I'm pretty happy with my
645n's. I don't think I can justify the difference in cost.

I'll probably buy a Leica and a Mamiya 7II one of these days just for
the heck of it.

grins All calm here. You are quite correct - my Pentax cameras would still
work as well as before the possible abandonment, and I would still use them.
However, I would miss the PDML if it went away!

Best regards,

Since Olympus has abandoned the 35mm SLR, I wouldn't go there. Canon
bell-ringers turn me off. Nikon, maybe.

 Regards,
 Ed

What if Pentax did an abandonment thing, in the same way Olympus did,
would you throw away all your old screwmounts, all the early and late
K-mounts, and say the hell with them all?
Maybe you would , but *I* wouldn't. There is so much Pentax 35mm gear
out there, it will take me the rest of my lifetime and then some, to
explore and buy/trade, and use all of it I can!
They haven't given up on ME, per se.
If anything, and that's not totally cast in concrete yet, they are
deciding to not make 35mm film cameras for a while.
Big deal. Everybody gets so UPSET!

Calm down folks.

As for the 35mm - Leica or Contax. The rest of the world (i.e. C, N and M)
will go mostly digital sooner or later (or sooner THAN later), so the only
reason for switching the system would be the CZJ lenses.
However, I'd rather switch to the medium format and get 645NII or Rolleiflex
SL66 (http://www.sl66.com/ - check this out)

If all Pentax cameras and lenses were confiscated by aliens or
something equally bizarre, I'd opt for the Contax G2 for people and
snapshots (maybe Voightlander) and Canon EOS for macro.

However, I'd rather think I was quitting Pentax because something new
and incredibly cool came out, and I'd go with whatever that was if it
fit into my budget.

Re: If you left Pentax, what Scurvy Dawg system would you invite into your life?

2002-12-12 Thread eactivist
As a photography novice, I am not convinced one system is significantly better than
another.

In fact, I've gathered -- sort of by osmosis -- that the emphasis is:

Nikon - professional camera bodies (stury, reliable)
Canon - technology (autofocus, digital)
Pentax - lenses

Anyway, I'd go Canon for the autofocus. Older now, and nearsighted, that makes sense
to me.

I will probably go digital in a couple of years and switching to Canon then. A diverse
company that also does other types of technology (copiers, printers, etc.) is probably
going to do digital better, on the whole. Besides I really like what they have now
(just too pricey). But that's why it's a good idea to wait for a year or two (and
that's why they invented ebay).
