Imprint Time/Date on DS Pics

2006-09-25 Thread Shel Belinkoff
I can't find a way to imprint the time/date on images made with the DS. Is
that even possible? It's not something I'd usually do, but there are about
seven snaps I need to make over the next week - 10 days where it would be
very handy to have that feature.

Provided the date is set correctly on the camera, the EXIF info contains
that already. The DS will not imprint on the visible image though.

The file creation date should also have that info.

The time and date are available in the EXIF data.
I suspect that you will need to use that information and the text tool
in Photoshop to do it.

I think you'll have to take the EXIF data manually and do in Photoshop.

Shel -

It may be worth checking the manual for the details of the DPOF
function in the camera. I'm not sure if it's practical or a solution
to your problem.

Hi Shel,

A quick google search turned out this:

http://jdatestamp.sourceforge.net/

It's a command line tool (you run it from a DOS shell) that will do
what you want.

Hope it helps,

The DPOF function should give you the option of inserting the date on a
print. If it's just for web publishing, both BreeseBrowser and Porta
have the option of inserting the date as a watermark.

I know about EXIF info. I want/need the date imprinted on the
image. If the DS can't do that, I'll use my P&S. Was hoping not to have
to carry around two cameras for ten days just to make six or seven snaps.
Thanks.

Because the client wants to see the info on the original image. She feels
more comfortable that way, doesn't understand EXIF. And since I'm being
paid for this, I'll try to accommodate her. I need the $$ now and don't
want to argue with her ... these few snaps may lead to more mindless,
relatively well-paying work.

Why can't you just add it in later from the EXIF data?
It's not a big deal to use the text tool to add something like that.

One more time, this time with small words..

Shel reads the EXIF data and then manually puts the date onto the
picture using the text tool in Photoshop.

The client has a picture with the date on it, Shel has a few more
moments of post processing, but in return gets to give his client a
picture taken with an SLR, and hopefully a better quality lens.

Shel takes pic with P&S that imprints time and date on to photo. Client
happy. Shel can buy dinner and feed his cats. Cats are happy. SLR quality
is not important for these snaps. I am taking a picture of the client's
thermometer which is located outside of her kitchen window. This is to
happen on certain days and at certain times. Client may want to see pic in
LCD of the camera. If Shel prints date/time on pic using Photoshop, client
won't see date/time on pic in camera, should that be something she desires.
Maybe client won't be happy. She's cats will be pissed.

Fair enough, I would show the client the info page and tell her the date
and time
that the picture was taken gets digitally transmitted to the print at
the lab She can read the info off the screen if she likes.
Sounds like the needs of the picture are simple though.
