Hello, all! After de-lurking in the “Full-Frame Thursday rumour”
thread, when I tried to respond, I was unable to get any messages
through, so I guess the mailing list software re-lurked me. I’m hoping
trying a new thread might work?

Anyways, to introduce myself, I have a Kr, which is my first foray into
the Pentax world, thanks to Larry’s encouragement. (The fact that the
Kr was *red* may also have something to do with it.) Larry has dubbed
it “The Little Pirate” (K-A) This purchase has also sparked a
recurrence of LBA, (clearly incurable) and while I like the Kr, I will
likely upgrade when budget allows. (My budget is measured in racing
tires…) Previously I was a Nikon girl, I have a D90, and used to have
an FG.

I have been a Mac user since… forever. (and Apple II before that…) And
I now work for… a certain fruit company in Cupertino ;-) I am partial
to Mustangs both for race cars and street cars, (I always wanted a
pony.) and although I like taking pictures of cars, I enjoy driving them
even more.

Cheers and hello!

Make sure whatever email program you're using is set to send "plain text
only", and you have to be sending from the email address you used to
subscribe. Those are the two problems that seem to occur most often
sending list messages.

And, Welcome Aboard!

I like Mustangs. Can't afford one now, but I once owned a 64-1/2

BUT it was a genuine 64-1/2 Mustang.

It doesn't look like any particular track that I know of, which is why the
first time that I saw it, I spent forever trying to figure out what track it
might be, because I didn't recognize it.

I race the most at Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, and Sears Point. But I've also
raced at Buttonwillow, Pacific Raceways, Miller Motorsports, Daytona, and
Homestead.

OK, time to start off the New Year by coming out from the shadows of
PDML. I've been a member on and off since I picked up my first Pentax
(a ME Super) in 2000, but I've generally just lurked and posted on
very rare occasions. But I've been hanging around since Frank had
bunny ears and everyone was waiting with bated breath for the first
DSLR from Pentax. Learned a lot over the years from you folks.
Sometimes a little too much, in a wired, dysfunctional family sort of
way. But I keep coming back; I guess that says something about me too.

I shot with a string of  Pentax film camera up until a few years ago
when I picked up a K10D. It's getting a bit long in the tooth now, but
I'm trying to resist the siren call of the K-5 so I don't dip into the
kids college fund to pay for it.

For what it's worth, I'm another Canuck. From Newfoundland originally,
lived in Alberta for a few years, and now settled down in Nova Scotia.

And I do have the requisite cormorant shot, just to prove I fully
 qualify for membership:

Hey Chris, sorry to have missed the originals. The K10 will serve you well for
the time being! I got my first Pentax in 1969, and have never been disappointed

couldn't photograph one even if we did (BP Oil won't let photographers within a

RE: Introduction, DA*55 and my Processing

2010-12-19 Thread Andrew Allen
Very nice to be welcomed by all of you; I see Godfrey posts here and
I'm happy to say he provided some early inspiration to me as I learned
to love Pentax prime glass (like many others I've owned lots and lots
of primes and have consolidated my kit to the most utilitarian form i
can). RE: Old men that drink heavily ;-) - I'm a young man that
doesn't drink at all, but I'm 'weird' enough without fueling the fire
with liquor.

On the processing, angles, geometry, details, etc. - I'm the kind who
approaches photography from a fine art perspective first I guess ...
love to 'perfect' shots, do lots of deleting, and bring the best
possible file I can into processing (which I do in Lightroom 3 and
CS). I like to produce a vintage look on many of my shots and will
play with color extensively to do so (including luminance and hue);
I'm not afraid to work a photograph over, but I like to avoid
full-blown HDR. Also, thank you for the list of acronyms, it has
helped already.

Welcome, Andy! I enjoyed looking through your work! I've had the
same experience you've had regarding the overall pace of the forums as
opposed to what goes on here. As I see it, I can go anywhere and be
called an idiot, so I figure I might as well confine it to a more
tight-knit circle.

Though, I would like to propose a rule for the group which states that
incoming members cannot be allowed to own a K-5 until all existing
members who want one have gotten theirs. It seems only fair --
particularly to me.

primarily street/detail work. Just wanted to say hi, look forward to
contributing where I can.

We can have a cranky, bohemian K7 fringe.

Welcome, Andy!  I enjoyed looking through your work!  I've had the same

so I figure I might as well confine it to a more tight-knit circle.

Though, I would like to propose a rule for the group which states that
incoming members cannot be allowed to own a K-5 until all existing members
who want one have gotten theirs.  It seems only fair -- particularly to me.

I second that.
New members should only be allowed to own entry level DSLRs and kit lenses.
They
should ask for advice and show horrible pictures.
Andy, you don't meet any of these !!
;-)

Welcome and have fun !
