I think I might have a slight front focus issue. But at the moment

I would want to rig a very sophisticated test rig before I tried
anything like that. It would have to include a precise scale and an
absolutely solid mount for the camera. However, my focus seems to be
quite precise, so I don't plan on trying this. Proceed with extreme

RE: K10D service menu/focus system adjust

2007-02-10 Thread J. C. O'Connell
THESE SERVICE MENUS CAN BE VERY USEFUL!

Anybody know if the earlier & other model cameras
like the istD DS DL DS2 DL2 K100D K110D have one and
how to access them?

If the AF system is menu servicable, other
important things may be too, LIKE SYSTEM
SENSITIVITY (metering) etc. I want to know.
And like this poster states, these service
menus ususally have settings "values" that
if you jot down before you start experimenting
you can always get it right back exactly where you started.

Re: K10D service menu/focus system adjust

2007-02-10 Thread David Savage
When you go into the hidden service menu it has this list:

DEBUG MODE
CARDDOOR OPEN
WRITE CARD VNDR
SCRIPT EN MODE
USR DAT CLEAR
DUMMY RELEASE
SWITCH TEST
RELEASE AGING
LENS COM CHECK
AF PINT DISP
DSP ADJ DAT READ
DSP ADJ DAT WRITE
EEPROM LOAD from FILE
EEPROM SAVE to FILE
EEPROM READ/WRITE
CPU ROM SAVE to FLE
DSP ROM SAVE to FILE
LENS ROM LOAD from FILE
LENS ROM SAVE to FILE
LENS ROM READ/WRITE
BOARD VER
DUST REDUCTION TEST
DSP CHIP VER

On quick inspection through the menus there doesn't seem to be a meter
sensitivity adjustment.

When you set the debug mode to , when you go into the setup menu
there is now a "Test Mode" section with:

- Capture/System Test
- AF Test
- Strings Disp(lay) Test

I have no idea what capture/system test is supposed to do. AF test is
self explanatory, & the strings disp test just appears to be a list of
direct from camera print error messages.

Cheers,

Dave

Mmm...if you can dump the EEPROM to the card, and then reload the EEPROM

The camera still seems to know its self as it's original project name,

An interesting snippet searching for strings in the DSP dump:
%dmm
   50
  100
  200
  400
  800
1600
3200
ISO AUTO

Hrm...

That's no surprise - we know at least one of the pre-production mules
had ISO 50-3200. I'm not at all astonished to find that when Pentax
decided to restrict the range they left the old strings in the table.

There are old strings in the frimware itselfand in the DSP output.
Both show a 50/3200iso capability (I mean strings were thought for). I
think they simply disabled 50/3200 iso. We/Pentax may unlock them.

Any idea of the CPU/DSP architecture? ARM/Mips? Other one?

Possibly a Fujitsu MB91680 Image-Processing System LSI

Interesting.

I'm not sure that dumping the roms gives us anything that the firmware
upgrade file didn't? Its easy enough to have a look through that and find
various strings etc.

Certainly would be possible to disassemble it, but it would be a huge task,
and franky, I'd rather have a working camera :)

Indeed, looks like it. Certainly from a quick look in the disassembler the
CPU file is FR core code.

I am a little suprised how little is in the CPU file though... all the
strings, etc are in the DSP file... I would've expected the menu system etc
to be under CPU control. Perhaps all video overlay updating is done by the
DSP.

Also for those with the DL, DS, DS2 & K100D

And for those with the *istD the power on button sequence is

1. INFO + AE-L + on/off switch
2. MENU - MENU - INFO

Although there isn't a focus system adjustment or as many options in
the D's menu.

Cheers,

Dave

I wasn't able to find any obvious indicators for the K10D. The
firmware for my -DS has this in it:

Softune REALOS/FR is Realtime OS for FR Family, based on micro-ITRON
COPYRIGHT(C) FUJITSU LIMITED 1994-1999

Seems unlikely that they'd switch CPUs unless they had to for
performance or cost reasons.

Neato... of course I don't have my -DS with me at the moment.
Anyone know what options are tweakable on a -DS? Not necessarily planning
on touching anything, but it'd be good to know...
