yes i remember the commercials too which is why i was surprised to see
the change in the tone in the credits. After having scenee the movie
and talked to friends who had read the book it was fairly obvious why
they had to change that :) Perhaps they started out trying to make an
"based on.." version but later changed too many undesirable aspects to
improve feel good factor in movie that it no longer was remotely "based
on..." type :)

Ya..

Like I said in my original mail:
I never ventured to see the film. I also said that it was marketed as "based on a true
story" (I can remember the radio/tv commercials). I never made claims that the film
actually had that phrase in the trailer/credits.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: OT: Spike's History ?

2002-04-11 Thread Daniel J. Matyola

They did leave out a few facts about his personal history and conduct that were
unattractive but probably based in his mental illness. It is not accurate, however,
to say that very little of the movie was based on the true facts of his life.

OT: Spike's History ?

2002-04-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Isn't that the same way that the recent academy award winning "A Beautiful Mind" won
their oscar ?

I never ventured to see the film but all the bruhaha about it centered around the fact
that it was VERY loosely based on the main characters life but it was marketed and
touted as being "based on a true story". Very little of it being actually "true" or
"real".

By this I mean, any "story" can be true if you choose it to be. Perhaps a better
tagline would/should be "based on reality". Then of course you get into the whole
"parallel universe" discussions and the whole bunk about "virtual" reality etc.

Just meandering thoughts,
Dave

I remember him saying this. Didn't he also address one critic's dislike
of the way he chose to represent (or leave out) some historical events
in Malcolm X by saying "Where's [critic's name]'s film about Malcolm X?"
