Re: OT - Checked Luggage Info

2006-09-18 Thread Peter Jordan
I can testify to the use of having a different looking bag. I had a bright
red pull along case and recently, I looked out of the aircraft window as the
plane was loading to see a baggage handler wheeling my bag away from the
plane.

Grabbing the nearest stewardess (not literally) resulted in my bag getting
put back onto the flight. It wouldn't have been noticed if it were plain
black.

I wondering if sticking a few fake fingers out of the bag would keep

Thanks for that Rick.

I'll bet you're favourite film is 'It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World',
especially the scene where the dying Jimmy Durante says "the money's
buried under the big W, I tell ya, the bg W!!" and then literally kicks
a bucket.

It works. My black rolling bag is festooned with big
white W's on every side. It went missing on a flight
to California in July, but was found within two hours.
The baggage agent said the Ws did it--it stood out
from the hundreds of other black rolling bags. Nobody
has ever picked it off a carousel by mistake, either.

Yes, I've heard that.

To make my Pelican 1550 stand out from the crowd I've painted a

OT - Checked Luggage Info

2006-09-17 Thread Cotty
On another list I belong to, there's a discussion about computer bags
and cases, and I introduced cameras and lenses into the equation, saying
that I have a problem hauling my photo gear and my laptop together when
using a Pelican 1510. Someone suggested a Pelican 1660, but I replied
that that was too big for carry-on, because I never check photo gear.

An interesting post was this:

Some advice based on my wife's comments. She's a baggage claims
supervisor for a major airline.

Make your bag look different. Stupid different. Paint the wheels purple.
Wrap the handle with a barber pole pattern of yellow and blue tape.
Whatever.

The biggest reason for truly missing bags, both checked and carry-on, is
that they all look alike. Make sure yours doesn't look like the rest and
that you can easily spot it. They tends to prevent accidental pickups by
others and allows you to see someone "walking off" with it. Either at a
baggage claims area or in the security checkpoints.
