 G'day All,

I caught up with some photographer friends for some drinks an
 cannibalistic shooting of each other.

The subject of this photo is a former model turned photographer who
 has amazingly long hair:

 http://500px.com/photo/26054069

 D800, 85mm f1.4, 1/160 @ f5.6, ISO 125. Single small deep octa softbox
 slightly above models head hight.

 Enjoy.

 Cheers,

 Dave

Great pose, really dynamic hair, Dave.

I agree that her hair could use more contrast from the background. I'd
suggest some light on the background to make it a lighter gray; or
backlighting her hair -- not too much; or side-lighting her hair,
parallel with her shoulders from camera right. Backlighting her hair
would give a very different look from this, of course.

Being contrary again: Depends on the effect you're trying to achieve.
Water waves are often not particularly contrasting, and if you're
echoing water waves, this seems like an effective composition. In
addition, by not highlighting the hair, you focus more attention on the
face/shoulder. (It's called Waves, but my eye gets drawn to the face,
making the hair a punctuation.) If you really want to focus on the
hair, you'd need to make the face less compelling.

My question about the composition is whether that shutter speed is what
you want. Probably don't want it any slower or it'd be too blurry, but
maybe faster for the sharp/frozen effect.

Make the shutter speed any faster you then run the risk of being
outside of the cameras sync. speed.

All the comments are interesting all seem to assume that I was
specifically shooting a hair toss, when in actual fact it was the
