the photography is spectacular, but it reminded me of a movie and book
called Baraka <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baraka_(film)>, which consists
of very nice travel photos onto which the photographer / filmmaker is
putting a 'spiritual' spin. Once you get over the gee-whiz aspect of the
images I thought that they were shallow and cliched - same applies to Tree
of Life, in my opinion.

Thanks for the link.

On the subject of inspiration... I rented the movie "The Tree of Life"
this past weekend.
While it is not your traditional Hollywood movie, and I found the
first third to be highly annoying, I would recommend it to
photographers if only for the cinematography. You could hit the pause
button on just about any scene and get inspiration for a great still
shot.

I didn't like anything else about it.

It is a TERRIBLE movie, but I agree with you that it is visually quite
stunning. Best viewed with the sound off.

Katrin Eismann posted a link on Twitter (@KatrinEismann) to this
article on how artists in various fields find creative inspiration.
Much is applicable to photogs.
