Optio question

2004-02-17 Thread Steve Jolly
Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the Optio S and the Optio S4?
AFAICT the cameras are pretty much the same apart from the sensor.
Is the lens sharp enough to make the resolution increase worthwhile?
Has the smaller pixel size of the S4 caused the noise to go up noticeably?

S

PS I'm not sure if this email is on-topic enough for this list, so I'll
just say I like bagels! ;-)

I think the most worthwile additional feature of S4 is the possibility of
RAW output (not possible in Optio S). David Coffin's dcraw.c now supports
Optio S4, so hopefully, other software support would not be too far away.

The increase in resolution is useful; the slight increase in noise is not
very significant. S4 has better navigation buttons, longer exposure (4s vs
1s) and longer movie recording limit. And since S4 price is bound to drop
with the release of S4i, this should be a better choice.
