Re: P5
It may be just a reskinned Program Plus but the P5 was inferior to the Super Program, which I think it succeeded. No TTL flash, maximum 1/1000s shutter speed. I referred to mine as the "plastic Pentax". That said, it was a good camera...essentially my only camera for 12 years and a back up body for another five. I now own a Super Program (courtesy of Ann) and it is a much nicer camera. On Mon, 23 Jul 2018 13:36:35 -0400, P. J. Owned a P5 for a short while a number of years ago. My memory of it is a plasticky, light weight, but bulky unit with hollow sounding loud shutter with a slow speed limited to 4 secs. Gave it to my brother and he's been giving me sour looks ever since..he possibly had other reasons as well(?). That was in about 1982. Jack --- On Thu, 1/13/11, P. J. I own one (P50) too. Very nice. It's a little like an early Super A. I love the cut away corner, which reminds me of a Leica M-something. I own a M 50mm 1.7 too. Is a P5 worth anything?
well, the P5 is quite an interesting camera with the drawbacks listed by Brian below. The 50mm in question looks like either a K or M 50mm, and the price is rather interesting - a clean one in BR goes somewhere between $70 and $130. I'd rather an A/ FA 50mm myself, actually. I'm quite happy with my m50 1.7, but sometimes being able to work in auto aperture would be very interesting. FS: Pentax P5, winder MEII, A50/1.7
This is the P5 I purchased on eBay for its front grip, since my P5 was lacking one. It was advertised as not working, even with batteries installed, so I bought it as a potential parts body. It turned out to be in excellent shape and working fine -- the batteries the previous owner had put in were just very weak -- just enough voltage to light up the shutter speed indicators, but not enough to release the shutter. It works fine with new batteries, and I've had them in for a few months, so I know it's not draining batteries, either. This P5 is in excellent condition with just a few slight rub marks from what may have been very occasional use. Since I took off its front finger grip, I'll include an ME II winder, which replaces the front grip anyway when in use and gives the camera a more ergonomic feel, preferred by many and definitely better with larger/heavier lenses. The winder is in EX condition. I'm also including an SMC-A 50mm f/1.7 as a freebie, or consider it as a functional body cap. The glass is actually excellent. It has that stiffening of the aperture ring, which means it works best if left on A. $110 including shipping to addresses in the continental U.S. Joe

Re: Pentax P5 and P50
James, The P5/P50 was designed for A lenses. It works fine with K, A, F, and FA lenses. With A lenses, the LCD goes into a Program Action or Program Depth of Field mode. You change it with the two rectangular buttons at the top of the LCD. You had a K lens on it, or had it set to a specific aperture. The buttons will take you thru 4 modes, AUTO (aperture-priority AE), Metered Manual (speed shows), 1/100 sec., and Bulb. So now you know how to work it... Regards, Bob S.
