I've only known females - and yes, have had them sit on my hand - spent an hour or so with one I named Samantha - In Bluff, Utah... as she sat on my hand I tried to place her on a purple flower and she leaned back and wouldn't leave my finger... likewise, with a red one .. she stepped off onto a beige ledge and later posed for me in the grass... I didn't check very carefully or see the segments on the underside, so you may be correct. I know some of the males have feathered antennae, but I am not sure that applies to all species. It seemed quite camera shy, and backed away when I tried to photograph it, so I didn't try to induce it to mount my hand. I have had other mantises land on my finger quite readily.
