Krispy Kreme is big in the South, but DD is catching on. I still like
their coffee, but most of the locations down here are conveniences
stores where the donuts are delivered in the morning. I grew up about
a mile from an old style DD, and you could get them still warm if you
timed it right, which usually meant before noon. ;-)

One thing I've noticed lately is even the old style Dunkin Donuts seems
to be trucking in the doughnuts. Krispy Kreme still makes them there in
the store.

I have both a Krispy Kreme and an old style Dunkin Donuts a 10 minute
walk of my home; depends on which way I turn going out the front door.

That 10 minute walk is important - just enough exercise to burn off the
fat from two doughnuts. Otherwise, I can't afford to allow myself the
pleasure.

Sorry to piss in your soup, but according to this page:
http://www.dunkindonuts.com/content/dunkindonuts/en/menu/donuts.html

each doughnut will set you back 100-150 kcal. You're gonna need to do a lot
more than 20 minutes walking to burn it off.

Sadly even Dunken donuts aren't what they used to be. Now they make
their product in a central location and truck it to the various local
stores, no in the store itself, and it shows. The last place around
here that someone could get a fresh made donut has very irregular hours,
the owners whim mostly. Tim Horton's coffee wasn't any better than
Dunken's and the price was just about the same...

former hockey player, Tim started the joint when he was still playing.
It was already starting to do well when he died in a car accident

suits have ensued (I think she lost).

Wonderful juxtaposition.
Great photo too.

In case you didn't know or haven't figured it out, Tim Hortons [sic]
is Canada's largest coffee-and-donut chain. Named for a (what else?)
former hockey player, Tim started the joint when he was still playing.
It was already starting to do well when he died in a car accident
while still a young man, and his widow sold it for a couple of million
dollars a few years later. She now thinks she got ripped off and law
suits have ensued (I think she lost).

Anyway, hope you enjoy this one - I couldn't resist.

 ;-)

 Comments always welcome.

 cheers,
 frank

What Paul said about the photo! I don't know a thing about Canadian
donuts--or churches for that matter. :-) Cheers, Christine
