I was taught to erase ink with a Pen knife, the small folding pocket 
knife carried by gentlemen.  It works much better on vellum than rag or 
wood based paper, but if you're careful it still works.  It was also 
useful for sharpening quills and pencils.

up, presumably so that it encourages our team in the games, or frightens the
