Thanks David, Bob W., Bob S., JCO, Dan, and knarf for looking. JCO, the vignetting is inherent in the lens design: I didn't crop this one from the full frame at all,. David, I was never seriously affected by the floods, my suburb is pretty well recovered, but some areas are still being put back together - often due to problems with insurance policies not being paid out. It's amazing how many definitions of 'flood' there are according to the insurers! The house on top of the cliff is a very desirable residence, and the price reflects it. It has views which can never be built out. For those who may not have seen it before, here's a link to a panorama I made some four years ago from the deck of my apartment - and yes, it is a beautiful view, especially in fine weather. http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~jco...@iinet.net.au/PESO_010.html Panning further to the right gives a terrific view of the city, too. PESO Misty Morning
Going through the photos from my 2005 trip to Malaysia, this is one of my faves. A misty morning on the East bank of Lemanak River, Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia as seen from the Batang Ai Iban longhouse where we spent the night drinking positively excellent Iban moonshine with zero hangover factor and boy, was I ever loaded. I still feel a bit bad for having gone there and watch them put on a show for rich Westerners but it was an amazing insight nonetheless so I'm glad I didn't have those qualms before leaving or I might not have booked that arrangement. The trip was three weeks with the first week guided and the other two spent backpacking and I hope to go to Malaysia again some day, it is a beautiful country, the people are friendly and very very hospitable and the food is awesome, you can eat all kinds of super spicy hot food but you will always still taste something and not just feel your mouth burn. And their breakfast, Nasi Lemak, is a great start into a day in the weather there. Some days I drank as much as 9 liters before needing to heed nature's call. It is all one huge sweatbox to me. http://tinyurl.com/eckinator4PDML Good? Bad? Ugly? Let me know! On 10/22/07, P. J. Alling [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It would be better if it were a little less centered. I agree - perhaps that, along with the fact that the mist only frosted the top half of the bus shelter (leaving the figure's bottom 1/2 relatively sharp) are why I'm ambivalent about it (I continue to vacillate). It's centred because I chopped off a huge chunk of the right side of the frame: A great hunking SUV that I thought looked good in the viewfinder looked stupid in the photo, so out it went. I really didn't want to crop from the left to compensate, as I didn't want to lose that sidewalk - to me that's an important element of the photo. So, despite the kudos, so far this, to me, is an almost there photo, one that's not bad, but not as good as I'd like it to be, with little or no way to fix it up without degrading it. Damn, I hate that!!! ;-) cheers, frank -- Sharpness is a bourgeois concept. -Henri Cartier-Bresson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
