Re: PESO: Open Water

2015-03-26 Thread Stanley Halpin
Thanks Rick. I agree that it doesn’t work when cropped down to isolate on the
ducks. What I liked about this was the subtlety; maybe it is too subtle! But
the few light-colored tree trunks in the background draw my eye to the
prominent pressure ridge in the ice which leads me to the ducks. From the
bottom, the boundary between water and ice also leads to the ducks. I did play
with the notion of “dodging” the ducks with a lightening adjustment brush but
decided I would leave it as is.
Thanks for your comments!

Thanks Frank.

It was a classic case of looking up, seeing something fun, and
pulling my camera out of my fanny pack.

The exposure wasn't quite right in the first couple of tries,
but by the time I'd looked down, adjusted things and looked
back up, the sun had gone behind clouds, and, well this is what I got.

All elements I like. Pealing paint and weathered wood details do cry out for a

Believe I agree with Bruce about having left a little more room between the

Y'know... same as the first one, my initial impression upon seeing
this is that it's a 30-year-old print which has been in a sunlit
window and has had all of the red bleached out of it. It's so blue/

Otherwise, all of the lines going in different directions go against
my rigid rectilinear attitude. But maybe that's just me.

Really nice, Peter. It is very soothing and peaceful. Reminds me of one of my

PESO: Open Space

I like this in color too. Wish Lightroom would get here for my BW
conversions, but have to pick out some shots to show tonight at class.

Again from the top of the hill. I think this shows nicely how houses here
can be built right up to an open space boundary. Except, from high up you
mainly see the planted trees on streets, rather than the houses. Though a few
do
show.

I do not actually know what that open space is, think it is too far from
Buchanan Airport and Concord Naval Weapons Station to be either. Still working
on a BW conversion and color version.

Why don't you just go to the Adobe website, download the Lightroom
free trial and then register it when your box copy arrives? It is
exactly the same. You'd have it in ten minutes.

This is nice but a little static for my taste.

Point taken -- hard not to do long distance shots static, such is life.

Yes, I expect that a color version would tend to de-homogenize the
trees and result in a bit more interest.

Problem is getting it contrasty enough without being too. Still working on
it. Also a bit easier to see the houses in the color version.
