Re: Pentax 70-210 and Sigma 70-300 Apo comparison([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Hi I've owned several variations of the Sigma 70-300, DL, APO Macro, APO Macro Super etc. all were soft at the edge of the frame at 300mm and CA is evident, unlike some of the better APO (EX)lenses where CA's are negligible. IIRC the F70-210 performed better at 200mm than any Sigma I tried in the 70-300 range. IOM the Tamron is a far better lens optically, I'm sorry I waited so long before trying one myself, it remains to be seen if the DA 55-300 is better than the Tamron optically. The Sigma is so weak at the long end that (in the sample I had) images appeared out of focus. People usually recommend Tamron's version of the same telezoom. But both will be outperformed by Pentax's forthcoming DA 55-300 and DA* 60-250 F4. The SMC F 70-210 is quite good, but I haven't tried it on the K20D's sensor. Re: Pentax 70-210 and Sigma 70-300 Apo comparison ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
A former member of the group John Hargrave, now deceased, repaired his 70-210 with this fault, it seems to be fairly common, my first one developed the same problem. You can see the root cause in the third picture down in this link. http://members.shaw.ca/hargravep/70-210.htm If you don't know exactly what you're doing when you try to effect the repair you will mangle the "information brush" which is now made of unobtainium. When mine failed both screws came loose and the information brush was mangled before I tried to repair it. I still have the lens if anyone wants it they can have it for $50.00 (I'll pay the postage in the US), KEH in Atlanta thinks they can repair it, (I got a quote from them for $100). The combined price is still less than these go for on ebay. When I was checking a few months ago one sold for almost $400, the cheapest price I saw was about $200. I bought a "new" one for considerably less. John Whittingham wrote: > I've heard rumour of the weak point, is it electronic? > > Regards, > > John > > On Tue, 06 May 2008 08:34:08 -0400, P. J.
