Re: Please, folks, take your OS concerns elsewhere.
A scroll of mail from aimcompute [EMAIL PROTECTED] on Mon, 12 Nov 2001 17:52:05 -0700 Read it? y Granted this a Pentax list... we all have computers and are concerned about their use as tools in general and in their photographic uses. I personally don't find the thread TOO off-topic. While random off-topicness is discouraged, the regulars who contribute all the time to the group are given a lot of leeway. Personally, I think this is right and proper, although t can go a little over the top. A discussion of OS merits is ok, as long as it doesn't dominate the list and as long as useful information is disseminated in a civilised way. If the PC/OS thread had ended up as Mac SUX! No! PC SUX then it would have been poor, but I though there was a good exchange of information. dave - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. I think the original point was that it looked like it *was* starting to dominate the group, with more messages about os's etc than about Pentax stuff. Yeah I know. :-) I wasn't really arguing, just expressing an alternate view. I'm a member of the MAPUG list (Meade Advanced Products). It's very strict compared to the PDML. I guess that has it's advantages. I do like our list's unmoderated freedom. Please imagine many angry inflammatory words here. Go to rec.photo.equipment.whatever if you want to be a netcop. The most interesting thing I see in these kinds of posts is the lack of knowledge that the only reason there are so many posts on any subject is that the list members find the subject interesting. Now I personally think that Doug Brewer and William Robb should not be allowed on the list. That would end all the off topic posts. Without Doug there would be no list, and without Bill there would be no PUG. So there would be no posts about off topic subjects. Har! Maybe if people who are incapable of setting their mail software to sort the list into subject so they can skip the ones they personally are not interested in should trade their computer for a yo-yo. --graywolf - The optimist's cup is half full, The pessimist's is half empty, The wise man enjoys his drink. - Original Message - From: Lon Williamson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PDML new Pentax Discuss [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 6:03 PM Subject: Please, folks, take your OS concerns elsewhere. Jeeze, Rob gets a computer and all hell breaks loose. Most of what you are are talking about as news has been rehashed for a decade or more. Pentax, is, for me, at least, a whole lot more interesting that Windoze stability, the wife of the friar (fetching as she is, with just a hint of grey), or how to keep Gates software running. If this was a list that was edited, half the recent crap, that runs to HUNDREDS of messages, would be deleted. Back to Pentax, PLEASE. -Lon - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
