Qimage
I've been using Qimage, a printing utility, for years. Its resampling system automatically resamples your image to your printer's native resolution during printing (without altering the image file itself), which really does seem to result in improved detail. It also does non-destructive cropping and arrangement of multiple prints on a single sheet of paper. But today I discovered one of its best features. Have you ever run a inkjet head test pattern and discovered you need to run a cleaning cycle? And then cringed at the thought of how much expensive ink was being used in the process? Yeah. Been there, done that. But I just discovered can run its own cleaning cycle, independent of the print driver and - get this - you can have it run the cycle ONLY for the ink that's showing problems! BRILLIANT! I would rhetorically ask why the printer manufacturers don't offer the same option... but since they're the one's who sell ink I expect everyone can work it out. -- Mark Roberts - Photography and Multimedia www.robertstech.com 617-522-0174 -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: New stuff: Epson R3000 and Qimage
I bet it's nice not having to change out photo black and matte black cartridges. Congrats on the printer! Last weekend I printed out targets and, after a 24-hour wait to make sure they were thoroughly dry, made the necessary ICC profiles. I also purchased Qimage Ultimate recently, to handle automatic image sizing (to the printer's native resolution) and sharpening. I've heard so many good things about this software I thought it was time to give it a go. Cut to the chase: Qimage seems to work as advertised and the Epson R3000 is a real winner: My first few prints have come out looking fantastic and the new printer is faster, quieter and feels much more solid and robust than my old 2200. Qimage really simplifies workflow if you're a print perfectionist. I can't say that the new prints are a *lot* better than what I was getting from the 2200, or if the improvement I see is due to the printer or the Qimage software (and as I make a wider variety of prints I may even increase my estimation of the R3000) but there definitely is an improvement and the speed and quiet of the new setup is pretty impressive, too. Black and white printing is much better than with the 2200: The R3000 does BW without using color inks, using a special ink set consisting of black, medium gray and light gray. I'm getting stunning results right off the bat. Re: Qimage
I use it all the time. I'm very happy with the results. I can batch up prints, use templates (e.g. three 4x6s or four 3.5x5s on a page). If I chose a particular paper profile, it remembers what size paper and what settings I last used with it and can load them automatically, or not. Re: Qimage
I use it quite a bit. It does a very good job of clean sharpening and sizing up. It also allows for easier placement on the page or multiple images on a single page. It was worth them money, IMO. Be aware that the interface is a bit quirky. -- Best regards, Bruce Tuesday, July 4, 2006, 11:57:49 AM, you wrote: BW Hi, BW anybody using Qimage for printing? RE: Qimage
Thanks. And thanks also to Bruce. I've downloaded the trial edition and played with it a bit. I shall have to spend some time with the manual when I have the printer. It looks like software that will make my life easier. -- Cheers, Bob -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of wendy beard Sent: 05 July 2006 15:29 To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Re: Qimage I use it all the time. Re: Printing with QImage
Just tried it with a BW image from a roll of HP5 shot last year and only just developed (in D-76, too!). Very impressed, I scanned the negative at 2700 and got a rather grainy image in Photoshop which only looked good enough for a 5x7: took it into QImage and told it to do a 10x8 without any special instructions. The print is very clean, still grainy of course but sharp and good tonality.
