Re: K-01 shutter sound? (was Re: FYI - Fiscal Cliff for K-01, > prices)

2012-11-15 Thread Don Guthrie
Derby, I have not heard it but I have read it is quieter than the K-5
without the slapping of the mirror. I'll let you know next week if
Amazon comes through on their shipping. Yes I am weak and have given in
at the $350 price point.

It is gaining some adherents as a street camera as quiet & inconspicuous
with pancake lens and or innocuous with the gaudy yellow color. I went
with black.

My interest is rising.

Does anyone have a K-01 and a K-5 and can compare the shutter sound? Is
the K-01 quiet?

2012-11-15 Thread Derby Chang

Thanks Bong

That's a good point about the weather sealing.

The shutter actuates when it comes on? So when the camera is off or
asleep, the shutter is closed? Interesting, because the M4/3 cameras
leave the shutter open when it is off.

Hi Derby,

They're almost the same despite the fact that the only sound produced
by the K-01 is the aperture actuation since the shutter is open before
hand (make the sound of the shutter opening when you turn in on or
wake it up after it times out). With a WR (18-55) lens, the K-5 is
the quietest with the K-01 perhaps just a wee bit louder; with a DA L
35, the sound becomes louder for both with the K-01 being
distinctively noisier than the K-5. I suspect the WR seal dampens the
noise of the aperture actuation and the general weather sealing of the
K-5 also dampening the sound despite the fact it has a mirror and
shutter making a racket.

Also an Optio WG-2 bundle.

Both on-line, haven't seen it in the local store.

That is how the particles the concept is based on were created in first place.

Yea, but the new experiment shows that a return ticket may be possible,
I expect that the reality will probably turn out to be like worm hole

Contax won't be back as a brand any time soon. The name is still
tied up by the contracts between Carl Zeiss and Kyocera.

However, your friend can buy Carl Zeiss lenses for his D2x now. The
50/1.4 and 85/1.4 are available now, and more lenses will be
announced this fall. These lenses are also available in M-42 screw
mount, and can be used on many cameras via adapters.

There are rumors that the Contax 645 will be revived by a new
manufacturer, but so far there are only rumors and no solid info.
Maybe we will hear something concrete at photokina this year.

slim possibility, I'll be pleased to pick up his spirits.
He is, however, doing glorious things with the D2x.

Change? It's a brand new division. He will be starting it from
scratch and running it. Can he make inroads in the USA market?

That depends on how much autonomy they grant him. He's a smart guy
and very plugged in to the US photo industry, so if they let him have
the freedom to do things his way and a reasonable budget I would
expect that he can make Zeiss much more visible.

No. He will be Sales Manager for camera lenses (both still and
motion picture) and the Zeiss Ikon camera line.

Bob,
Would you expect the present status of Zeiss' photo division to change
significantly under Schleuning's leadership?
Will parts inventory management be his primary responsibility?

This is interesting news. Pity it's not a full frame, but what can you expect
for $2500 ?

Also 12% of the SLR market, is more then I would have guessed.

Not at all. This had been planned for a while. The Studdert grip should be be
sufficiently expensive for the maker to recoup his initial investment, both
in time and materials.
 I'd have one.

No problem actually I may have given you bad advice someone else on the list, I
forget who mentioned the Pentax USA treats the P5 as if it didn't exist since
because they never sold it officially in the US.

Usually Pentax US has older manuals for somewhat less, last I knew it was
about $4.00 for shipping and handling you might be getting a photocopy or
an original for that amount.
