Hi Bruce, Pretty impressive best of given it's your first year of studio shooting, you are producing admirable work. Late this year I attended my first group model shoot, I learned quite quickly that I don't have the foggiest notion of adequately directing a model. I've a lot to learn but intend if at all possible to do more of the same this year. You obviously have the technical side nailed but I now appreciate that there is so much more to this type of shooting. Thank you, Rob. I was very fortunate to connect with a professional product and fashion photographer at my first studio workshop. She observed the hopeless attempts that I and a fellow photographer were making to get some life out of the models and agreed to setup a private workshop to tutor us. At this same workshop, the two of us watched in open-mouthed amazement as she coached a first-time model into creating outstanding poses and expressions. The model was so impressed, she also attended our directing workshop. I believe that directing models is one photography skill that you cannot get from reading tutorials or watching webinars. You need to experience a live one-on-one session with a skilled teacher and models to get the nuances. And in my case at least, one session won't do it. Boris, it's been an enormous benefit to me to study studio lighting. In _all_ my of shooting now I'm much more aware of light sources, shadows, light quality, and how that affects composition. I highly recommend it as an exercise to anyone who wants to improve their images. Nice set of photos, Bruce! Not exactly my style, most of them, but I appreciate the quality of your work. I like the ideas in the plant still lifes most ... they remind me of a nomograph of sensuous still lifes done by a famous photographer (whose name escapes me at the moment). This 12 for 2012 concept is interesting to me.
