Re: Geso Q picks

2013-04-01 Thread Don Guthrie
Thanks Brian. Actually the 28mm adds some heft to the Q and it feels
like a substantial camera yet balanced and I don't feel like it will
slip from my hands. So I think it helps steady my hands. It's the darn
manual focus I have yet to master.

I got my Q back from repair in AZ yesterday. The repair slip said
they recharged the battery (duh) replaced the upper PCB and cleaned
the sensor. Well it works so no complaint. They reset it to factory
defaults. I tried to update to latest firmware today but the web
site says 1.11 Not available

I was surprised how much I missed it. It was my carry everywhere
camera that I certainly preferred to my cel phone. I liked it most
when I had some decent glass on using the Fotodiox adapter.. My
favorite being the SMC M 28mm F2.8. Here are a few test shots taken
today with this combo.

Very nice selection. The M 28 looks to be a good fit for the Q.

I assume these were hand held. I find it very difficult to hand hold
steadily with anything other than the dedicated Q lenses. But it's
early days and I haven't yet put any serious effort into using third
party lenses via adapters.

Thanks Frank. Don't tell anyone but I took those while grocery shopping.
Their floral dept. has such lovely arrangements.

Nice shots, Don. The print of the street scene is very nice. That and
the yellow flowers are my favorites.

Glad to hear that Pentax got it repaired! Replacing the circuit board is
not a minor fix...

I just did some checking and found a post on PF that translates a
message from Pentax Japan saying that they found a bug in the
firmware... Other than the rolling shutter distortions I posted about I
have not had any problems after the upgrade, and I can't blame the
firmware for the rolling shutter effect. It *does* reset *everything*
which is not a big deal but you have to redo anything you have
customized. Apparently the download link to the v1.11 update is still
active, but it looks like a v1.12 (or maybe v1.111) is int he works.
