As soon as I have some more time, I will look into this.

Besides being a Pentax-fan, owning 7 Pentax Bodies and at least 20 lenses,
I am also the developer of a data-recovery product myself, but it does not
have very strong support for FAT filesystems yet. See:

http://www.dfsee.com

Assuming that images on a CF-card are always written as a whole, and
almost always sequentially, there is little chance of fragmented files,
which is the main reason that UNDELETE is very unreliable on
FAT filesystems as used on computer harddisks ...

Hello Rob,

Yes I have. My normal mode of operation is to download the card in a
reader and then re-insert the card in the camera and Erase All.

Thanks, I'll give it a test. Have you tried it after an "erase all" has been
executed? What worries me is that the in camera format is near instantaneous
but the erase all chugs away for quite a while. I couldn't get a thing off my
card (which had been freshly formatted) after an "erase all".

Well if anyone finds a working solution I'd love to know. All I saw were
fragments of FAT with no decipherable data. I used "Zero Assumption Digital
Image Recovery" and "Get Data Back for FAT" to no avail.

the first thing i did after getting my Nikon Coolpix 995 and 5000 cameras
was to go through all of the setup menus to make sure that the camera worked
the way i wanted it to. that included disabling digital zoom and all erase
capability. only a full format is enabled.

With the *ist D? I thought it destructively erased files, well at least mine
did. :-(

It is very easy to select erase all when deleting a single image, especially
when using the joy-stick to make the confirmation and doubly so when the joy-
stick is faulty (as is mine).

My personal policy now is never to erase images in the field (apart from a menu-
driven full format) and I wish I could disable the erase button via the set-up
menus.

I have used this program:

It isn't nice (no gui), it is slow, but it did a great job.

Hope it helps,

I remember someone mentioning a program or something that I can use to
retrieve "deleted images" from CF cards even when they appear to be
