Re: I bought a new lens today
I've had one for a while and, as long as you watch out for flare, it produces some very nice results. Be careful of on thing: the front of the lens tends to unscrew a bit on mine. I just make a point of checking it from time to time and tightening it up as needed. Re: I bought a new lens today
Hi Gary, Thanks for the tips. I figure flare is something to watch out for on most wide angles, with that big (for a prime) front element. And, now that you mention it, I went to check the front of the lens. It wasn't loose, but it unscrewed rather easily. I'll keep my eye on that in the future. thanks again, frank Gary J Sibio wrote: I've had one for a while and, as long as you watch out for flare, it produces some very nice results. frank theriault wrote: Hi, Keith, I really got it as a fun lens anyway, especially for the price I paid - not a steal, but not bad either. So, I don't think I'll be overly critical of it. As with pretty much all of my lenses, the real limitation will be behind the viewfinder! vbg From your comments and experience, I should be satisfied with what I got. Have fun in Hawaii!! I guarantee it! g In addition to my MG, I'm taking a brand new Leica C1 (it's maiden voyage, to see if IT goes on eBay or not) and my trusty Seiko-Epson PC750Z digital! What a menangerie! keith cheers, frank Keith Whaley wrote: I have that very one. I've used it in my MG. On the one hand, I am not overly impressed, yet not sufficiently disappointed in it to write it up on eBay! Reason is, with all the shots I took, none were overly contrasty, nor were they quite washed out looking, either. Most everything was sort of 'snapshotty.' Oddly enough, not too much distortion, as I had expected. I was careful to not tilt the lens axis upward too much, but still I expected a lot more distortion than I got... Yes, I know, the rather insipid photos were probably due to my choice of subjects, and I ought to take a lot more before making up my mind. I will when I go to Hawaii in a week. I'll report back! g -- The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears it is true. -J. Robert Oppenheimer
