That's good. I had a guy try a different scam the
other day where he sent a bogus eBay second chance
offer on an item I had bid on. He also was just
looking for account info.

Lots of scams out there.

Thanks Peter,
The notice was from my message file in "My Ebay." And sure enough, I
had to reset my password to get back in next time. Seems all above
board. But you're right, you do have to be careful and think about what
you're doing.

RE: OT: Ebay strangeness grows stranger still

2006-08-28 Thread Trevor Bailey
G'day Paul.
I had a similar thing happen earlier this year.

Payment was made into my Paypal account. I withdrew it to my bank account
immediately.
An hour later, the buyer tried to cancel payment and apply to Paypal for a
refund.

If I was you, I'd be withdrawing the money ASAP just to be on the safe side.

My Ebay account had been compromised requiring a new password be set.

Hooroo.
Regards, Trevor.

I was paid immediately upon conclusion of the autction. I've checked my
Paypal account several times.
The money is there. I'm shipping tomorrow. However, I also received a
notice from ebay that my account may have been compromised. They asked
me to set a new password.
Life goes on.

Hopefully that's not a spam in itself. Suggest you don't follow any links
on the email from ebay to change your password - go into ebay directly.

I've been getting a few ebay spam emails telling me that my account has
been compromised or suspended. Each time the quality of the spam
improves. All were fake. If unsure forward the email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and see what response you get back.

Hope this helps.

Re: OT: Ebay strangeness grows stranger still

2006-08-28 Thread pnstenquist
You're right, he did retract. Or, more likely, the bid was retracted without
his knowledge. The retracted bid was his second bid. His first bid remained the
high bid after all the others were retracted. I spoke to one of those whose bid
was retracted. He thought I did it. He said he certainly didn't request that.
he also bid again and was the second highest bidder. I thinkk that what
happened was that the one guy who has retracted 81 bids, or some obscene number
like that, retracted. Ebay then retracted four other bids along with his. I
don't know if that was because the bid chain was broke, or if it was just a
system glitch. But I believe only the one bid was intentionally retracted. In
any case, it's over, and I think the buyer is okay. We'll see.
