Very nice! I would crop most of the yellow flowers on the bottom part.
The combination of the dark green olive trees and the fresh green of
the grass is perfect. Maybe a little yellow.

I'm looking at it on my crappy monitor at work, but I like it.

I like the luminosit of the grass contrasting with the (on my monitor)
dark and forboding trees.

No, because I like everything that olive trees represent. The fate of Ugolin
adds to everything that olive trees stand for in my mind.

2009-04-10 Thread Luiz Felipe
Boris, I'd like to think I understood your ideas about this photo. I
like the grass, did't miss the tops of the trees - but I feel they could
have more detail to them, they should contrast with the grass but still
offer more shadow detail than they do now. It's not their dark shade,
it's the softness that bothers me. I'd rather your rendering to Paul's.

At the risk of getting another cartload of the matter, don't know you'd
have enough DOF. As they are, the trees are neither detailed enough nor
blurred. That's my main issue with this pic.

Already bought them. Read Jean de F then watched the film, watched Manon
then watched the film. Books and films both great, but the books are even
better than the films. The character of Ugolin, for example, is very much
more developed in the books and he's a very sympathetic but pathetic
character. And the quality of the writing is superb, although I had to run
to my dictionary quite often for some of the obscure Provencal / Catalan and
agriculture vocabulary.

Killer fact: The actors who played Ugolin and Manon were partners for 10
years and married for 2.

I like this composition but I think it needs a little more work to
'lift' the tones in the olive trees, similar to Paul's reworking of the
image. Having said that, I think I prefer your rendering of the
grasses.

I've looked at this a number of times, but there was something vaguely
unsatisfying about it - couldn't put my finger on why, there was just
something missing.

Then I looked at Paul's reworking of it and it made all the difference!

I think yours is just too "flat". The extra punch really shows off
the composition - it separates the trees from the grass and the
blowing grass from the rest of the grass and makes it all work.

cheers,
frank

Boris -

I think I'd like to see the dark of the trees a little lighter so you
can see more detail in the leaves and grasses in that area. Also, as
Jack mentioned, more contrast between the greens and yellows in the
grasses in the foreground. I messed with it a little with some dodging
and burning and came up with this...

I'll remove it within 24 hours - sooner if you'd like.

I like the subtle gradations of green; I like the jumbled tassells of
the grass in the foreground. And then my eye moves up the picture, and
the olive trees are a wall and a *short* wall, when I wanted the
viewpoint to keep going either up or in.

If the original capture has it, I expect I'd like it better with the
view slid "up" so about half the foreground is lost and the tops of the
trees are there.
